@MadameMeursault

I hanker after a planet with two moons

I said to my friend that God (or whoever) was very clever to create the sun and the moon to look the same size from Earth so we could have eclipses which are fab, and she said actually no because he/she should’ve given us lots of different moons in different colours because that would be better to look at.

I think you're both right. Maybe he ran out of small pebbles for moons

@Crankley

Avelosa Is this meant to be funny or something?

I hope not, if so, major fail.

Why would it be funny?? It's a serious conversation.

@MyGhastIsFlabbered

But apparently our galaxy (& every other galaxy) has a supermassive black hole in the centre
So don't move to the galaxy's city centre cos it's dangerous?

Surely it would he a hole-ar system?

BookofJudith · 03/09/2020 21:13

How far is the nearest Waitrose? In lightyears if it makes it an easier calculation...that would be the decider for me...

bluecoffeecups · 03/09/2020 21:13

A planet with two moons? The tide wouldn't know whether it was coming or going.

Bigoldwimp · 03/09/2020 21:18

Yanbu I think his idea is rather vacuous

Ole in't road has been filled in long since.

It's a bluddy travesty, I tell thee ...

Amazing!!!! Love this

What the heck have I wandered into here?
I think I have wandered into a convention of Psychotics Anonymous with the convention being live-streamed from the planet Zanussi!!!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 03/09/2020 21:23

I think a solar system where the sun has collapsed into a black hole is still called a solar system because when it was formed and settled into its orbits because the sun used to be there. Or it might be called a planetary system if there was never a sun, just a black hole with an accretion disk that formed into planet.

Also, you won't get sucked into the black hole. If your planet was in a stable orbit around the original sun and didn't get disrupted when the sun went nova then it's still going to be stable around the black hole because the black hole will have roughly the same mass as the original sun (a bit less actually as some mass will be ejected during nova) so it will have the same gravitational pull as the original sun.

A possible downside is that your planet might be lacking in atmosphere, because the sun going nova might have blasted it away/burned it away.

UpCloseAndPersonalWithGlenda · 03/09/2020 21:26

Sounds like the arse end of nowhere, OP.

What the fuck are you on about OP? Living near a black hole.

Does Zanussi orbit a star or a black hole?

Ah, but how are the school? Can you afford to buy in the best catchment area? If not, can you afford school fee for private?

‘Possible downside’ Grin Hmm. I lived somewhere with no trees for three years. Twice. And I’ve lived in Coventry which covers the no atmosphere thing. Sun tho. Hmm. I did live under the hole in the ozone layer for a bit. That was sorta the opposite. Can I take the dog?
MrsBobDylan · 03/09/2020 21:36

This is exactly why I won't talk about planets/stars/black holes etc. It fucks with my head. I'm working on a flat earth theory. Much more comforting for those of us without the intellect to understand astronomy.

MrsBobDylan · 03/09/2020 21:40

One last thing before my head explodes, I'm not very posh either op, so the clincher for me would be does it have a decently large TK Maxx or access to online as a bare minimum?

I would probs need a Dunelm too and a Home Bargains.

No, I thought it would be a cheap area to live bit up and coming so we could make a profit

I'm sure delivery wouldn't be an issue. I'd like a h and m and a Maccies

You're also going to want to be sure that your planet has a molten metallic core so that it has a magnetosphere. There may be some nasty radiation around depending on whether things are falling into the black hole or not and a magnetic field might be the difference between being ok and being blasted by, umm, stuff. I recommend a full structural survey before buying.
