Pearl Parties

One of these popped up on my FB feed last night. There were over 250 people getting really whipped up about the seller and the pearls. I googled and can see that this is a thing. However, I just can't be my mind around how much people spent and their enthusiasm - men and women! Can anyone explain this to me as I really am at a loss to understand why anyone would be so drawn in?

I get the sellers motivation, it is the buyers that I don't get. They were so involved. It must be some sort of validation thing. Lots of hearts and OTT declarations of devotion to the seller. She was VERY good BTW.

It's a scam. Often the pearls are artificially coloured and don't even go with the species of oyster!

Some of these sellers should get real sales jobs, they'd be very good.

I watched for a while, whilst also googling to find out what I was seeing and in the end I felt so sad to see so much money being wasted. Looking at the grammar and spelling, I would assume that the buyers are not people with money to waste. Someone did come on and say this is a scam and there were leapt upon but the viewers. So strange and it has stayed with me. Caveat emptor and all that, but I feel really angry if I think about the supply chain and its implications.
