Worried that DS cut his finger on a thorn

We were out in a field this morning and 2 year old DS was touching all the plants and flowers, we were keeping a close eye. But then he grabbed a rose bush and a thorn must have gone into his finger or scratched it, as it’s now bleeding. We cleaned it up with wipes and alcohol gel.
I remember reading once that rose thorn scratches were dangerous.

Clean it really well and put some antiseptic cream on it and then just keep an eye. If it gets hot or swollen, or starts weeping, have it checked out by a pharmacist. If your son develops a temperature, speak to your GP.

As long as you have cleaned it and he has had his immunisations it will be fine.

garlictwist · 03/09/2020 11:23

It will be absolutely fine. Not dangerous at all. Just make sure there's no dirt in the cut and it will heal in a day or 2.

Just make sure son's anti-tetanus jab is up-to-date.

Coffeecupthirty · 03/09/2020 11:45

I think his tetanus is up to date, when do they have the tetanus? Is it with MMR?

They get it 3 times with their baby jabs then it's given again with pre school boosters so he's had 3 doses. Keep an eye on it. Maybe take a photo if you're worried and ask your gp.

Cabinfever10 · 03/09/2020 11:53

the tetanus immunisation is in the same jab as diphtheria, whooping cough, polo and a couple of others

SpaceOP · 03/09/2020 12:08

Honestly, relax. As long as you cleaned it, there's a 99% chance it will be fine. Stick some antiseptic cream on if you're worried as of course, there's a chance germs could get in there and give him an infection.

Not to be mean but I do think we are doing our DC a disservice by not understanding that this sort of thing is normal and basic first aid will sort out the issues in 99% of cases.

I called the GP during lockdown as my youngest cut his foot on a rusty nail, she said if they had all the jabs then they wouldn’t do a booster tetanus jab. So my one had 3 when a baby and then due the 4th when he’s 3.4.

Boosters tend to be for adults who cut themself who haven’t had a tetanus jab in over ten years.

They are dangerous only if you were a Sleeping Beauty.

You cleaned it, just keep an eye on it in case it gets infected.
