I had a text 45 minutes ago to say my Dd was not at school, she left at the normal time but the school, say she's not in. I called them 40 minutes ago and am waiting for them to do a physical check to see if she's there. She's yea4 10, back in yesterday. She said school was shit, was grumpy all evening and went to bed at 9. I'm getting quite worried tbh as it's out of character for her. She's in year ten.

It does happen. I'm afraid today when they've changed all the layouts in school exits and entrances etc something is bound to give in terms of human error. I think it is appalling and sorry you experienced it.

I had that once when DD was supposed to be in after school club and they told me she wasn't there. So I phoned the police.

Then school phoned me back so I had to phone the police again and tell them that it was an error.

I heard once that the attendance officer came round to someones house but the child was in school. They had got the wrong family.

It was appalling, not the school as it's shit for school staff right now but generally. She's home and is going to explain.

ex attendance officer, they have a duty of care/responsibility to let you know if she's there or not. Safeguarding 101
Haven't they already informed the parent that she isn't there so they have fulfilled their duty of care?

Yes, but once they established that the child left home, and their records show that the child has not been recorded in class, it is an incredibly simple, and importantly quick job to physically check the classroom. Leaving op waiting for 45 mins plus is not acceptable.
