DH screaming at local kids to fuck off

Well not exactly but he might as well have done. We have a 1 year old dog who barks at every little noise. Anyone walking past the garden sends her crazy. We live next to a walk path popular with dog walkers. Not too much of an issue as they tend to be quiet which our dog can handle.

When lockdown started the path became popular with people taking their kids for their “one hour exercise” so this is where the trouble started. Kids running up and down screaming etc ... dog going crazy ... eventually she got used to that but now people have decided that the bushes near our fence are great for their kids to play in ... this absolutely sends our dog crazy as the kids are messing on the fence. She barks, they scream, she barks more .... it’s become a nightmare.

Last night kids were messing near the fence. Dog started barking. DH went to bring her in and then heard the kids shouting “woof woof woof” stood directly facing the fence deliberately winding her up. He then said very loudly “it’s ok Cujo, they’ll all fuck off back to school soon thank god” 😱 it went quiet and they walked away.

I said he shouldn’t have sworn at them and his argument is he didn’t swear AT them. Just about them. I believe two of them might belong to my neighbour 🤦‍♀️ Not seen her yet but if she brings it up do I apologise or ask her to keep the kids from winding up the dog?

Train your dog. Or muzzle it. There's nothing worse than a dog barking at every noise. I know because I live next door to one.

Cam2020 · 02/09/2020 20:08

The children shouldn't have been winding the dog up but your dog needs to be trained not to kick up a fuss when people are using a public walkway and other public areas near your house.

I wouldn't apologise for your husband and would second feigning ignorance if it's raised with you. It wasn't the most diplomatic response but we've all lost our rafg before. I'd be annoyed with my DP if he apologised for me!

Shocked my these replies. So it’s ok for your dog to be an annoying little shit but kids can’t be? 🤔

TheShepherdsCrown · 02/09/2020 20:17

Team DH here.

If the dog is so annoying why are the kids pissing about in that particular spot?

Sadists wind up animals. Where are their parents?

MrsApplepants · 02/09/2020 20:20

I think what your DH said was fine. Kids shouldn’t be out if they can’t behave themselves.

This thread 😂😂

Kids of that age can change their behaviour, for dogs it is instinct.

If DD comes to me in ten years time complaining about something similar, my response will be ‘good, now leave the poor dog alone’.

Can't believe we haven't found out if the dogs name is actually Cujo. I really hope like a pp said it's a chihuahua 😂

NearlyGranny · 03/09/2020 08:18

I'm seeing 'Cujo' as a hyperactive Jack Russell. 🐶

Yokohamajojo · 03/09/2020 11:47

Kids that wind dogs up are very annoying and as much as i like our neighbours they have visiting kids every weekend that does this! I bring my dog in every time he barks in the garden and even for a terrier he is pretty good! But having kids leaning over the fence barking and winding him up is definitely not helping!

singersarp · 03/09/2020 11:58

You don't have to be rough as badger's backside in how you tell off kids. They learn from how they're treated. The kids were wrong to wind up the dog and needed to be told but not like that....

Brainwave89 · 03/09/2020 12:15

If challenged I might apologise, but otherwise well done DH! I would have been cross as well.
