Looks like I'll be off 18th Dec to 3rd of Jan - seems a bit too long if anything!

I don't have kids so I'm tempted to spend less time off at Xmas and squeeze in a quick holiday somewhere (taking all the necessary precautions of course)

OP posts:

The same. May add more days to the beginning as well. I always have most of December off as Christmas is my favourite.

I have a four year old so he will be at school for the first week at least. Oh. Yes!

SomewhereInbetween1 · 02/09/2020 10:59

I'm going to take as much of it as I can. I have a ridiculous amount of holiday to take still and I normally work through Christmas so my colleagues who have children can get priority, but not this year. I am absolutely shattered having worked through from March to now with no holiday, and I plan to have a very leisurely Christmas!

BaconsLaw · 02/09/2020 12:26

Oh shit. I just realised the dates. I'm usually off from about the 14th so I'd have a week to myself. He's off when I'm off!!

No no no no no no no!!!

unicornpower · 02/09/2020 12:34

My work shuts down for Christmas so I think we finish on the 18th which is waaaaay too early for me really! but hey ho. i will sit and eat all the food whilst watching hallmark movies cus hubby will still be in work heheh happy days!

iwishiwasonhol · 02/09/2020 12:42

christmas day ,unless i win the lottery ,the joys of retail

lioncitygirl · 02/09/2020 12:44

I’ll be off from the 8th until the new year.

KeepingPlain · 02/09/2020 12:45

I've taken the week between Christmas and New year off. Not really bothered about anything else.

FizzyPink · 02/09/2020 12:48

I have the same booked off as we were supposed to be going to New York. Now that’s been cancelled I might work from home maybe I’ll finish later or work from home 29th or 30th. I’d rather have those days back for later in the year depending on the situation with going abroad at that point

vanillandhoney · 02/09/2020 12:48

Finish on the 18th, back at work on the 4th. I run my own business now and this is the first year I've ever had Christmas off! I can't wait Grin

DinoTeam · 02/09/2020 12:51

Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Retail unfortunately Sad

Brieminewine · 02/09/2020 12:52

Hopefully I’ll get one of the main days off, we’re not allowed any annual leave or requests during the festive period unfortunately we get what we get...the joys of frontline NHS Grin

pissedglitter · 02/09/2020 12:55

Retail so we only get 25th 26th and the 1st off

OddBoots · 02/09/2020 12:57

Only the bank holidays, my children are older and colleagues have childcare aged children.

nosswith · 02/09/2020 12:58

Not sure yet.

Please be kind to those working over Christmas, not just in retail, and don't treat them as if you are some kind of entitled person.

mummymeister · 02/09/2020 12:59

self employed and will be on call as I have been for the last 15+ years for Christmas and New year.

FortniteBoysMum · 02/09/2020 12:59

Half day on 23rd then back to work 4th Jan. Role on Christmas.

Muggly · 02/09/2020 13:04

16hh til the 8th, I normally work through christmas and the day itself, so this is going to be glorious!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 02/09/2020 13:07

Yabu!

CMOTDibbler · 02/09/2020 13:08

We have a company wide shutdown over christmas, so am off the 24th - 4th

alltoomuchrightnow · 02/09/2020 13:09

Managed to get Boxing Day off this year for the first time in years (retail)

Brighterthansunflowers · 02/09/2020 13:11

Only weekends and bank holidays, I might get a random day or two as well, but we have to juggle to ensure there’s cover for our small team.

PontiacBandit · 02/09/2020 13:15

We've not been advised but like OP I expect 18th Dec - 6th Jan, we usually have a decent Xmas shutdown of 2-3 weeks.

I'm very appreciative after years of working in retail, sometimes we'd get a 1 hour early finish on Xmas Eve and back in after boxing day.

JengaNonConfirming · 02/09/2020 13:15

Two weeks off over C and New Tear, hopefully. We should be settled into our new house by then, so hope to get some decorating done and spend evenings in front of the log burner Grin

CatBatCat · 02/09/2020 13:16

I'll work as much of it as I can so just the bank holidays. Its always quiet and there's nothing to do so its not really working and I may as well save my annual leave to use in Jan/Feb when everyone else is miserable being back at work.

IntermittentParps · 02/09/2020 13:16

I'm freelance and my DP is involved in a public-facing event from Nov–Jan for which he needs to be on call at least some of the time. So between us, even if travelling and booking holidays becomes easier by that time, I don't think we'll be able to go anywhere or take much time off.

I always have Xmas Day and Boxing Day off but very commonly work up to and including Xmas Eve, then start again on the 27th.
