Marus Rushford - AIBU?

it's admirable that he feels he can raise the topic of school meals and poverty and the campaign seems to be growing wings with the food alliance HOWEVER AIBU to think that given that he is an extremely wealthy footballer with many footballer contacts in similar positions that they should be putting their money where their mouth is, so to speak too?

Marus Rushford is a greedy evil virtue signaller worthy of our condemnation.

Marcus Rashford - on the other hand- top bloke.

So just because he is focusing on food, I can't talk about things which would prevent the food poverty! Ok noted. Apart from not knowing what he is actually doing, you questioned why he wasn't doing something else entirely! Well, actually, as it turned out, because you don't know anythng about him, you questioned why he isn't doing precisely what it is he is doing!

Anyway back to saving the world, one meal/ person at a time, as I'm just me. So you, like most other people, don't have the time or finances to do anything outside their home! You are just moaning about what others are doing. In this case a 22 year old from a poor background who is making great efforts to decrease food poverty in children all across the UK!

If you have just an hour or two a week to spare you could volunteer in your local food bank or other community charity. They almost always need more hands!

Instead of people here criticising and judging, ask yourself why we have millions of children going hungry? why does a 23 yr old footballer have to highlight this?

^ I agree 100%

@netflixismysidehustle

MitziK - you can fuck the fuck off with your crack on comment.

People are returning to schools, colleges, unis etc so it is not outrageous to be concerned for people still waiting for details on their results so they can move on, organize resits et.

Fair enough.

I hope your kid wasn't one who was marked as a fail despite the teachers putting them down for a distinction, then - although I suppose if they get a fail, at least they can then try again, rather than get the grade they should have had.

Schools really can't do right for doing wrong sometimes.

@Theyweretheworstoftimes

He grew up on free school meals. He knows first hand what child poverty is like.

If he didn't have free school meals he wouldn't have been able to train to become the footballer he now is.

I love this post.

I don’t understand the criticism that he’s doing it for the PR. In football no one cares if you’re a nice person or even a decent person as long as you play football well.

You’re not going to get Barca offering eleventy bajillion quid for you on the strength of your charity work.

It’s not going to further his footballing career one iota so it seems clear that the only reason he’s doing this is because he’s a good lad who hasn’t forgotten where he came from.
