I think anything like that needs to be liked by both people before going up in the bedroom. It’s a shared space after all.

reminded me of a friend who used to buy expensive vintage coins for her father at christmas, birthdays, fathers day....
when I met him, having little idea what to talk to him about I asked about the coins - he wasn't that interested, Friend cheerfully said - in front of him - Oh, no, Dad's not really interested, but it's a good investment, I'd rather inherit the coins than a bunch of worn jumpers.

If it;s a painting that your husband really likes, and that is the kind of money that his Mother would spend on a gift, why not?

He's wrong about the coins. These depreciate like fun. Although admittedly probably worth more than a few jumpers.

Anyway I've said I cant live with period red as the main colour surrounding a bush.
