I have a neurological disease (similar to MS) and I use a mobility scooter as I can't walk I stand for more than a minute or so.
I still have issues about being a young person on a scooter and feel really fragile about it, so I accept I may be over sensitive.
I was queueing for a popular restaurant this week as I had promised my teenager we could go, as she loves it. The queue was long and initially just straight down the street, but as we nearer the front we had to go into a queueing area that sort of looped back round on itself, separated by retractable barriers on metal stands. I hope that makes sense.
The group behind us were quite loud and annoying and were standing too close all the way. As we entered the looping bit, I accidentally hit one of the bases of the stands as it had been pushed out of line. Some kind person moved it out of the way so I could get through.
One of the women behind me said really loudly "hahahahaha, it's like the Wacky Races!" and the whole group started laughing. Several other people in the queue also laughed.
I know it sounds silly but I was mortified and it really upset me; but I don't know if it's because I'm just so sensitive about having to use mobility equipment.
