To want to complain about the way the hospital has handled this?

So a week ago I first attended hospital with suspected IIH, they attempted a lumber puncture which failed. On Thursday my symptoms were alot worse they attempted another LP which also failed. ue to further symptoms and optical changes neurology requested I be admitted with daily opthalmology checks until they can do a guided LP on Tuesday.

I spent one night on the ward before being discharged, the dr on rounds stated that they wouldn't be able to do anything if my vision went over the weekend so there's no point following it up. They then asked me to go back to the day ward once I was discharged to get a plan for Tuesday since I wouldn't be an inpatient anymore- no opthalmology checks had been done at that point.

So when I got to the day ward they weren't overly impressed id been discharged especially without eye checks- I ended up spending 4 hours on the day ward while they got all that arranged. I had a quick call with the ophthalmologist yesterday but no physical checks. And no this morning I've woken up with hardly any vision in my left eye right eye seems OK. So I'm now sitting in A&E worried that its potential permanent.

So AIBU to want to complain? The plan with neurology has been completely abandoned but it was put in place with good reason.

I would definitely put in a complaint.

I've sufferered with IIH for nearly 2 decades and suffered negligent care at all provincial hospitals. I class provincial hospitals as those that aren't IIH units I.e UCL or QE2.

I really hope you get seen by someone who takes you seriously.

Thanks! Tbf the drs I was originally seeing were really good and liaising well with the neurology team at a different hospital (they cover the hospital I'm at as well) but they weren't sure what ward to admit me to and then it all went downhill.

They've said the swellings definitely increased but they won't fully assess it until after the LP. Im going back in tomorrow to see them again as well.
I've just got home but I have a horrible feeling They've missed something.

Its good you are getting care.

Are they going to try another lumbar puncture tomorrow?

missbipolar · 30/08/2020 21:27

They've said no they won't be attempting it until Tuesday again but that feels like an eternity away at the moment!
