To think that Joe Wicks is not a hero?

Dont get me wrong, I like him and do one of his hiit sessions every day. He is a great trainer and motivator and he has raised a lot of awareness of the benefits of exercise. But a hero he is not. What he is, is an astute man who spotted an opportunity to make a lot of money during lockdown.

He raised 500k for the NHS through t shirt sales. But he also made 10 million for himself. I saw numerous comments about him being a national treasure as he got up every morning to do a 30 - 40 minute PE session for the nation. Even with planning weekly costumes, making props and planning the exercises (though often he winged it) this does not necessitate a full days work I am sure. I did the sessions on top of an 8 - 10 hour working day as did many others which is much harder.

It just annoys me when I see him being hailed as a hero when I doubt he would have done it without being able to make a ton of money for himself and to raise his own profile

Namechangr9000 I know! I didn't stay on it long but what I saw was really disturbing. So much viciousness and nastiness against people whose only crime, as far as I could see, is being in the public eye.

There are people in the public eye that really grate on me, and I might give an opinion on here but certainly wouldnt waste my time following everything they said and did, and then bitch about it, that would annoy me more!

How nasty. I suppose these people have to deal with it all the time. I did wonder if that was why he’d moved. He is very silent on where he lives now. I think he won’t make the same mistake of over sharing again.

I personally think he’s a genuine guy. Listening to his desert island discs he comes across as a really caring bloke.

He said he had the PE in schools tour booked and when lockdown happened he thought of all the kids in flats who had no access to gardens or parks and how they needed PE. He knew, coming from a hard upbringing himself.

He didn’t need to do it, could have sat at home. He even continued when he had a nasty infection in his bones. He waited til 9.30 to go to the hospital so he didn’t let anyone down.

Shame this thread has been invaded by the haters.

@ZaraW

I know people who never exercised and Joe Wicks got them to do it. There are lots of people I dislike I just don't have the energy/inclination to moan about them.

Anybody who signs up to a forum like Tattle for no other purpose than to run down strangers is a thundercunt. That is all.

@PablosHoney

Not a hero by any stretch but has he called himself one? I can’t bear his voice and energy but I know I’m being unreasonable there 😋
YANBU at all. He's extremely annoying but he's harmless enough. I have to give him his due - despite being no more gifted as a PT than hundreds of people working in gyms up and down the country, he used his good looks (?) and business skills to build a multi million £ brand for himself. Good for him.
