Aggressive anti-maskers make it less fun to go out and do stuff so swathes of us are staying in more than we would

All I seem to hear about these days is people who don't follow the masking and social distancing rules and how it makes going out so much more stressful and how people who would like to go out more are staying in more instead?

AIBU to think aggressive anti-maskers and anti-social distancing covid deniers make being out in the world even worse than it has to be in the time of Covid?

bibbity
In that case, I'm definitely with you on that.

CitizenCandyKane · 30/08/2020 08:32

Aggressive anti maskers? More like aggressive, tutting, not minding their own business maskers Hmm

Yellowbutterfly1 · 30/08/2020 08:35

I haven’t heard of aggressive anti mask wears as you put it but have heard a lot about aggressive mask wears.

A disability rights group in my local area conducted a survey and reported that so far at least a third If local disabled people who cannot wear a mask will no longer go out because of aggressive mask wearers

DeepTreacle · 30/08/2020 08:38

I haven’t encountered any aggressive anti maskers

Definitely this. I have been subjected to it multiple times by foul mouthed individuals, so it works both ways.

I've yet to see on my travels anyone being abused for wearing one.

I've given up going into shops now, as I can't be bothered with foul mouthed idiots who refuse mind their own business.

Aragog · 30/08/2020 08:56

We were in London a month ago and there was an anti mask/5g conspiracy march. It was seagulls. Bit many of them really, especially considering the size of London, but they were aggressive and u pleasant to be around shouting in people faces as they went about their own lives.

Me, Dh and teen Dd were in the queue to go into the Disney store and one large man shoved his face right up to mine shouting that I should 'remove the muzzle' and that 'were the 99%, you don't need them.'

Actually I'm clinically vulnerable so technically not in that 99% and the only person not SDing from me and being in my space were him and his like, getting up close, shouting and thrusting paper at us.

There was a huge overlap of this group and the two groups we saw previously outside Parliament - one was about trump being great, the other was an anti- block lives matter one. Lots of angry, overweight white men shouting and swearing in both groups - very much your stereotype thug.

Aragog · 30/08/2020 08:57

SD is now out the window if you wear a mask. What’s the point?

Not round here. Most people are doing both still.

Reedwarbler · 30/08/2020 08:58

Judging by some of the comments on here by mask wearers with a self righteous streak, it is they who are often aggresively questioning non mark wearers, and not the other way round. I have yet to see anyone complain that they were abused for actually wearing a mask in a supermarket.

Aragog · 30/08/2020 08:59

It was seagulls???? Goodness knows how that got in there. It should have said it was awful!!!

Doccomplaint · 30/08/2020 09:01

I’m exempt from wearing a mask. I’ve been aggressively challenged now four times. I have never challenged anyone as to why they are or are not wearing a mask.

DianaT1969 · 30/08/2020 09:02

Where do you live OP that you are coming into regular contact with groups of aggressive anti-maskers?
Or is this post based on yesterday's media coverage rather than real life?

Florencex · 30/08/2020 09:03

I haven’t seen any anti maskers or anti social distancing. Where I have been it is near 100% compliance. DH goes out more than me and would say the same.

userxx · 30/08/2020 09:05

This completely.

TOFO1965 · 30/08/2020 09:08

I walked into Waitrose just behind a woman who wore the mask to get past the dude on the door and then she promptly took it off. Defiant in her twattery.

DeepTreacle · 30/08/2020 09:10

Was she aggressive in her defiance?

Kaktus · 30/08/2020 09:13

I am out and about every day with work/school runs etc and haven’t encountered any aggressive anti maskers so no, they don’t make going out less enjoyable for me.
People who refuse to keep their distance in places where it’s perfectly possible to do so definitely decrease my enjoyment though, whether they’re wearing a mask or not.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 30/08/2020 09:15

I've never seen any "aggressive anti maskers". I go out and use public transport very regularly and I've only seen a handful of people not wearing masks. None of them "aggressively" so.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 30/08/2020 09:19

I haven't noticed any aggressive maskers or anti maskers. But I have noticed an absurd number of people wearing a mask under their nose / hanging off their faces so loosely as to be pointless, or wearing it as a chin hammock and putting it up and down as it suits them, all of which make viral transmission equally or more likely than not wearing one at all. Which reinforces my feeling that masks are all about being seen to do something, because something is better than nothing in most people's minds, rather than actually being an effective tool.

ParlezVousWronglais · 30/08/2020 09:20

I went to a supermarket the other day in a slightly more deprived area and there were far too many people not wearing face coverings. I felt very uncomfortable. Anything to help stop those droplets from coming out will do even a scarf. It’s very selfish not to.

I have asthma and I wear one.

YummyJamDoughnut · 30/08/2020 09:26

I went to the shops yesterday. Our town has a one way system- most people were following it. Of course there are some idiots who can't or won't follow directions. Majority had a mask on.

Were they ‘aggressively’ not wearing one, or just not wearing one?

I have asthma and I wear one

How is that relevant? I imagine some people with asthma can wear one, and some can’t.

What has the fact it was a deprived area got to do with anything?

I went to marks and spencer in a posh town area and saw loads of people not wearing masks.

Subtext: urgh those disgusting poor people not wearing masks, don't they know they might infect decent people like me.

I was in a normal area (not posh, not deprived) on Friday in M&S and was called a cunt and after that scum for not wearing one. Also called a twat in Waterstones. I guess that individual was in Waterstones to buy a book to help them increase their vocabulary.

So it doesn't matter what type of area you are in.
