Tax credits

My son is 16, going on to college next week. My gov gateway account is showing as no further payments. I get WTC and ctc paid weekly, normally showing next 8 payments. This happening to anyone else?

Have u informed them he is staying in education?

Marrypop · 29/08/2020 21:02

I think you have to inform them if child is staying in full time education when they reach age 16, otherwise they assume they aren’t and payments stop.

Even if you have informed them, they are only sending out the new awards (which include that child) after 1st September. They are getting a lot of calls about this - I also asked them because my award makes it look as if my 16 year old is leaving education (even though I have already told them she isn’t).

(You also have to tell the Child Benefit people if you haven’t already.)

Saracen · 29/08/2020 23:14

They routinely do this. It is very frustrating for families who rely on the money.

Do check that you have informed them he is staying on in full-time education, but they often just cut everyone off regardless and then reinstate the award after term has started. Fine for families who aren't living hand to mouth but terrible for those who are.

QuacksInTheDark · 29/08/2020 23:16

Same. I spoke to someone on the web chat and he said that I will still receive my payments weekly but they might be different from the 1st of September, he said to check later next week as the system will be updated by then with the new amounts showing.

Hi yes I informed them 6 weeks ago. They're aware of it and are processing the change just hope I get paid something at least on weds

Do you have a gov gateway account? If so are seeing the 'no further payments' on your tax credits?

Yes “no payments due” is what I can see when I log in.

caringcarer · 30/08/2020 02:14

You might need to ring them again and tell them what you see on your screen.

Tumbleweed101 · 30/08/2020 07:02

From what I remember they stop them all automatically at the end of
August and then process the changes for those staying in education. I think I had a couple of short weeks when my eldest two hit this bit which was a pain, especially first time when I didn’t expect it. The money does get backdated. If you’re worried though call and check.
