AIBU to think that £649 is too much to spend on an online mattress?

DH has found a Nectar mattress online- looks like a good deal; 365 day trial, lifetime warranty, free pillows, mattress protector, sheets and a duvet but it's £649!!
I suffer with joint pain so happy to go for higher quality, but this seems like a lot of money- is a Nectar mattress worth it?

What is a nectar mattress? Do you mean memory foam? If so i think people either really like them or really hate them. Personally I wouldn't give up mine for anything and really suffer on holiday without it.

MintyCedric · 28/08/2020 20:47

I know nothing about Nectar mattresses, but would definitely say it's well worth paying out for a good quality mattress.

My divan bed was £1300 and seriously it's some of the best money I've ever spent.

SideEyeing · 28/08/2020 20:49

Took a while for me to work out what an "online mattress" was Grin

Buy the best quality you can afford in shoes and beds because if you're not in one you're in the other.

Sailingblue · 28/08/2020 20:50

I don’t know about nectar mattresses specifically but when we went mattress hunting there was a massive difference in the feel between the cheap and the £1000 plus ones. I tried a range from £500 to £20,000! I couldn’t tell the difference from the £5k to £20k ones but I really could from the £100 to the £1000k. See what the reviews are like but if you can try some, it’s worth it to find something you like.

Thunderbolted · 28/08/2020 20:50

I bought my latex mattress online for 2k, so no 700 isn't unreasonable.

Sailingblue · 28/08/2020 20:51

Obviously I was never intending to buy a £20k one before someone accuses me of stealth boasting.

Michellebops · 28/08/2020 20:51

We paid similar for the dormeo mattress. Best purchase ever.
We googled voucher codes before and saved an additional £65

VictoriaBun · 28/08/2020 20:52

Just had our new mattress delivered this afternoon.
We'd had a memory foam one for the past 10 years but have gone for a Sealy sprung one with a geltex pillowtop .
If I were you I'd be looking at the reviews from an independent such as Reevo or Trust pilot rather than just looking at their review site before making up your mind.

PeanuttyButter · 28/08/2020 20:52

We paid 1500 for our online mattress. Best money we ever spent. It was scary buying something such as a mattress without trying it first

PurpleFlower1983 · 28/08/2020 20:54

I’ve no idea what a Nectar mattress is but ours was £1800 and definitely money well spent!

Aquamarine1029 · 28/08/2020 20:55

I spent far more than that. Money well spent, imo.

Whoknowswhocares · 28/08/2020 20:59

What have you got to lose? There’s a full years money back guarantee. The only way to test a mattress properly is to sleep on it for a few nights so buying from a shop is worse imo

A different company but I returned an online mattress purchase with zero issues and got a full refund two days after requesting it. Hassle free

BradPittsLeftTit · 28/08/2020 20:59

£649 seems about avg for an avg mattress?

We looked around a few years ago and went for John Ryan for £1200 just for the mattress-and we both agree it's worth every penny!!

transformandriseup · 28/08/2020 21:03

It's a good price and have paid more but I wouldn't buy any mattress that I couldn't try out in a shop. DH and I bought one recently and each one is so different, even ones with the same comfort rating.

ZoeTurtle · 28/08/2020 21:05

I wouldn't buy a mattress I hadn't tried, but £649 isn't really expensive for a mattress. You spend around a third of your day on it - why would you skimp?

JammyHands · 28/08/2020 21:07

I paid £700 18 years ago. Still going strong. Worth every penny.

SallySolardel · 28/08/2020 21:08

We bought an Emma mattress recently which was a similar price and love it

KitchenRollHuggers · 28/08/2020 21:08

Lifetime warranty

Why would you not?

We paid £1000 for our bed..
Worth the money 100%

im5050 · 28/08/2020 21:09

I have a waterbed cost about £1200 15 years ago
Best bed ever and worth every penny and it’s heated as well

unmarkedbythat · 28/08/2020 21:14

We got a Simba two months ago and so far we absolutely love it. Look around for discounts on the Simba, Emma, Nectar and so on, there are usually good ones.

AlwaysLatte · 28/08/2020 21:14

We bought a medium firm mattress from
Sealy which is a make we know so usually go for and it's extremely comfortable and so good for my back. It was only £650 so you don't need to spend a fortune. Just go for good reviews and a well known name, and make sure you know what firmness of mattress will suit you and online will be fine.

Pebblexox · 28/08/2020 21:17

I've never heard of that mattress. However I wouldn't spend below that amount for a mattress personally.
You want to invest in your mattress, not be buying cheap.

DivGirl · 28/08/2020 21:21

I spent similar on a Simba 2.5 years ago and I love it so much. I'm always so happy to get home when I've been away - even posh hotel mattresses have nothing on my bed.

Always spend money on what separates you from the ground - best mattress, shoes, and tyres you can afford.

Noextremes2017 · 28/08/2020 21:22

Only one possible problem.

Seeing as nobody seems to have heard of this company - will they still exist in 365 days time?
You might be better buying from an established company / retailer.
