AIBU to think that £649 is too much to spend on an online mattress?

DH has found a Nectar mattress online- looks like a good deal; 365 day trial, lifetime warranty, free pillows, mattress protector, sheets and a duvet but it's £649!!
I suffer with joint pain so happy to go for higher quality, but this seems like a lot of money- is a Nectar mattress worth it?

I don’t think that’s a lot for a mattress. You can of course get them cheaper but have never found a comfortable one less than £500 ish. Think ours was around £800 10 years ago

This is the one I have, sprung with a memory foam top layer.

Similar price to yours and you could try it as it's Bensons

We got a nectar towards the start of lockdown. We really like it so far!

TOFO1965 · 29/08/2020 20:06

I spent way more than that. You need a decent mattress!

bibbitybobber · 29/08/2020 20:07

I'm totally the opposite.
First house I bought a memory foam mattress for £300, after kids spilling stuff, and dogs, and waters breaking we have needed a new mattress for years.
I have tried at least 3 different mattresses between £700 and £1000 and have hated every single one, and have gone back to using original mattress.
Finally tracked down the same model that we were replacing (only a silent night memory foam one) at a cost of £300 and it's exactly the same as the one I bought 12 years ago.
I love love love it!

That is pretty cheap for a good mattress. We're about to spend £1400

Shmithecat2 · 29/08/2020 20:10

I bought 1 Superking and 1 double Emma mattress a couple of months ago, brilliant mattresses.

Toilenstripes · 29/08/2020 20:11

That’s not much for a mattress. We got a hybrid a few years ago for about £1,500. Well worth the money.

PickAChew · 29/08/2020 20:16

After reading lots of reviews, we decided against a memory foam mattress and went natural, instead. Bought a vi-spring and love it. Soft but properly supportive. It's flattened a little but no dips.

Certainly my opinion about memory foam mattresses has changed in one year. Of course you have to do a proper search, you do have to check websites that review them. I have even bought one for my kids following what I found here on mattresses for kids.

My tempur mattress was over £2000.

Our mattress was over a grand and it’s the best money we’ve ever spent. We spend a third of our lives in bed, it’s an investment.
