To pay with FINAL bill- not bits every time?

A month ago, we found a recommended electrician for minor work- replace 2 plug sockets & a light, install 2 electric heaters and a landlord certificate (EICR). He estimated 2 days to complete.

He is fairly new and extremely slow! The 1st day, he did most of the main bits and asked for payment on those. He re did the invoice and I paid what had been done. That was a month ago! In total, he has now been back 3 more days, and its still not complete! Delays from his pre-booked holiday, his daughters illness, our electrics having issues he needed to work out with someone more experienced and now needing to re-do some readings for the certificate- again.

Each day, the electrics have been off most of the day, so I've had to find a WIFI cafe so I can still work. He is here 7hrs each day, not just an hour or so! He often has to call a colleague for advice. Today he asked for payment of what else he had done so far and would re-issue another invoice to reflect the changes from his original one- again.

AIBU to say no, I will pay once its all done?

Absolutely say no. If it was agreed as one job, then he should complete the job and then submit the invoice. He sounds a bit odd tbh. Are you sure he’s qualified?

Yes, I checked he is qualified and registered. I just feel he is new and never done some of the things I asked- so seems to be learning on the job. Thank goodness I'm not paying by the hour!!!

My partner is a tradesman and asks for payment at the end of a job, not end of the day! Noone asks for payment at the end of the day! He sounds mental
