To think these items shouldn't be un-substitutional in my Ocado shop!?

We're currently quarantining so I've got an Ocado delivery arriving this afternoon. There are only two lots of items missing - milk and butter! Really, no other milk or butter was available that you might have been able to pop in!? Obviously we can't get out for top up shops so I'm now going to have to beg help from friends or organise another delivery. How can such staple items just be completely omitted?Angry

*Note - I realise that this is very much a first world problem but frustrated and need a rant!

I agree it is really annoying OP. I am having the same issue and now considering switching to tesco becuase of this. They never seem to be able to substitute basic staples but when something more specialist is missing I find it gets substituted for something completely random.

SantaClaritaDiet · 28/08/2020 14:16

weird.

When you see the randomness of some of the substitution, it is surprising, unless the store or warehouse had a fridge problem and are unable to supply any at all, it happens.

StrawberryPi · 28/08/2020 14:25

I completely understand that some more specialist items could be hard to substitute, but there are 114 fresh milk products, and 122 butter products on the Ocado website so it seems unlikely that there was no suitable alternative for either of these items!! Perhaps it is another "mutant algorithm" Grin

Tesco are fucking terrible for missing items. I wouldn’t bother.

Morrison's don't have any grapes on their website. At all. Of any sort.
Weird

I had a Tesco delivery recently where my bread was "unsubstitutable"! I did email them and they just said something about how their system worked and they'd update it. Did think it was a bit rubbish though.

I had ordered potato’s from Tesco but apparently they don’t have a substitute for them Hmm

Witchend · 28/08/2020 14:35

I have had pizza unable to find an alternative before.
I do not believe there was not a single pizza in the whole shop.
Mind you they also substituted it for coconut yoghurt once, so maybe that's a good thing.

@JoeCalFuckingZaghe Funnily enough I have had some great subtitutions from tesco. They do seem to at least try. One example was when we ordered 4 loose tomatoes and they substituted them for 10 packs of 4 tomatoes for no extra charge. I made a lot of chutney that week!
