An airplane seat one- not had one of these for a while

Was flying back from holiday yesterday in an aisle seat. There was a mother and daughter on the plane, the daughter being about 14. They had originally been sat in someone else's extra legroom seats at the front and had to then move to the row behind me where there was an empty aisle seat. The daughter was very vocal about being unhappy with how little room she was going to have then insisted she had to have her suitcase at her feet which the cabin crew did not police.

Shortly after take off the woman in the seat next to me started vomiting. I am emetaphobic so as soon as I could I moved to the aisle seat behind.

Well you would think I was devil incarnate
The daughter and the mum made passive aggressive comments for a lot of the flight to each other. They wanted to stretch out and sleep and now they couldn't. The daughter said she couldn't handle this. They both had their suitcases at their feet so the mum's shoes were in my leg space, but no effort was made to move them. Lots of pointed elbowing when I was trying to sleep and just general whinging. I was damned if I was going to react and just ignored them. It was clear this entitled mum was raising an equally as entitled daughter. They must have known there was a strong chance there would be someone else in their space but they were just so annoyed by it.

When they got off the mum pulled a woman's hair quite hard by mistake but I heard her laughing about it with her daughter in baggage reclaim as the woman had pulled her up on pushing in shortly after so this apparently was funny.

I am sure I wasn't unreasonable but it would be great to hear about other entitled passengers. I I have always loved hearing these stories

@DeRigueurMortis

I've a good one....

I was flying back from the USA (work trip) and the company had paid for me to fly Virgin Premium Economy (their equivalent of business class, so bigger seats, more space, better recline, better food etc)

It has a 2/3/2 seating arrangement and I was in the "3" section.

A couple sat next to me and asked if I'd mind swapping seats with their teen DD so they could sit together.

Fair enough I thought given I was travelling alone so wasn't really bothered where I sat....until I realised that they wanted me to swap with their DD seats who was in economy because they had only paid for premium tickets for themselves Grin...

They actually called me selfish for not swapping - CF's in the extreme...

Only a complete mug would say yes to this!

I hope one of them swapped with their dd so she wasn’t all alone. Selfish arseholes - them not you!

Cheeseandlobster · 30/08/2020 16:21

@Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches

That’s interesting OP. But you’d actually booked the seats not just bought two tickets?
Yes I actually had assigned seats and had my smaller suitcase in one. I left a suitcase on a train once many years ago so wanted it in my eye view in case I did the same thing again and it was this that drew the conducter attention. She categorically told me no, I could not do this and needed to let someone else sit there as a ticket apparently does not guarantee a seat - just right of passage.

Cheeseandlobster I didn’t know that! Mind you, I’ve never tried it.

As a flight attendant, I’m thoroughly enjoying these posts Grin

You'd actually wonder at the mentality of people like this 🙄. Imagine going through life thinking this is an acceptable way to behave.

Indeed it took me a second to actually register that they were serious....

When I said I'd swap their response was "great DD will be so pleased to finally be able to fly in premium with us, we've never been able to justify paying the extra"

After a short delay where my face probably went from ShockHmmAngry I said "what in earth makes you think I'd give up my seat in premium to fly economy because you're selfish enough to treat yourselves but not your own child" then utterly ignored them for the rest of the flight until the woman in the middle seat woke me to up to go to the bathroom.....and yes the CF was still on form because she'd woken me up to get past because she didn't want to wake her sleeping husband on the other side of her....

Nope - they stayed in the PE seats and left their DD in economy....

PablosHoney · 30/08/2020 17:03

That’s outrageous 😱

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 30/08/2020 17:05

Absolutely CFs of the highest order!

They sound like a pair of simpletons. They thought a complete stranger would sub them instead?

I'd have "accidentally" spilled my wine in his direction. What an unpleasant pair of creatures.
Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 30/08/2020 17:11

I mean just how would either of those things seem ok?

I wonder what the dynamics of their relationship with either were, I.e. if one of them was the driving force behind the cfery

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 30/08/2020 17:11

*each other

PablosHoney · 30/08/2020 17:12

I was shocked by the comment that having a disability and having to use a certain part of the plane makes you grabby 😡

I think they were just really arrogant and self absorbed to be honest.....

You seem to have forgotten you are on MN, ableist central!

I think the husband. He was the one who asked me to swap seats, made the comment about his DD being pleased to sit with them and called me selfish when I said no, the wife didn't say anything (but neither did she look embarrassed or surprised).

Might explain why she woke me rather than him in retrospect as I guess he'd have given her grief for waking him up....

PablosHoney · 30/08/2020 17:35

Well I would absolutely have moved for the man in the wheelchair but I would have expected the airline to refund me the priority seat fee I’d paid for, like the pp. What’s wrong with that?
BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/08/2020 18:13

Assuming the extra legroom seats were the emergency exit row, I’m surprised the man in the wheelchair was told to sit there. I, possibly wrongly, thought you had to be able to get up and open the door in an emergency which is why they don’t let under 16s sit there.

Happy to be corrected though and I would 100% have moved from the seat if someone needed it more than me (not just because they were tall but didn’t want to pay extra for the seat).

DeRigueurMortis · 30/08/2020 18:13

No I didn't given she'd already woken me up so it seemed a bit pointless but I did tell her she could wake her DH up if she needed to go again as it was "his turn to be disturbed" - sadly her bladder held for the rest of the flight....
