All summer I’ve been doing Take a Bloody Break and Heart FM’s money competition, I just don’t seem to have any luck!!! Could really do with some good fortune, our finances are looking dire. I’ve never actually won anything so I was wondering if anyone on here has actually had any luck in these competitions?!!

A couple of years ago I went through a phase of entering a LOT of competitions.

Won loads of stuff including 2 European city breaks, laptop, iPads, Xbox, 4K TV, Dyson, and lots of smaller things.

I was 'comping' for 3-4 hours per day though.

I won a Batman calendar in a Smash Hits competition back in 1989, then the next year I won a calculator in a local newspaper competition (it was a good one that I used for my GCSE maths and I think I've still got it shoved in a drawer somewhere). I also won £100 cash in a raffle 3 years ago, 4 weeks before Christmas so it was perfect timing.

Pedallleur · 27/08/2020 22:25

A trip on a sailing yacht to Cowes courtesy of the Radio Times. Tickets to Southampton then out to Cowes. I used to work with someone who entered those buy this xxx and win a trip to ....competitions. So he might see a pan that if he bought it could win him a trip to e.g. Rome. He won numerous holidays but hit the jackpot with a pasta competition for an Italian cookery school. He won and was there with some other winners. There was competition for them and he won.....a Ferrari. He kept it a year and sold it on to a Japanese banker for £50k. This was in the 80s so he got a big chunk of money towards a house.

I won a hamper of hoodies from IKEA. I had not even entered competition. My sister took my son to IKEA she entered a competition guessing how many sweets in a large jar and my son wanted a go but you had to be over 18 so my sister said he could put it in Mummy's name.

They forgot to tell me and I had a very strange phone call from person telling me I was closest and had won. They wanted to check my address. I thought it was a scam call but two days later it got delivered to my door.

oomymoomy · 28/08/2020 02:57

Turned up at DS's favourite soft play one Saturday in December to find they were having a ticketed-only Christmas party which I hadn't known about (stupid of me to go that day really but I just wasn't thinking). The party was coming to an end and they really didn't want to let us in. But we'd come quite a long way to get there, we were regulars and they knew it, and I knew that DS would kick off massively if I told him we couldn't go in, so I basically just argued my way in.

Anyway we'd barely got through the door and taken our coats off when someone came up to me and rather grumpily told me that I'd won first prize in their prize draw! The entrance tickets were the draw tickets, so I think what must have happened was that because mine was the last ticket sold, someone had dropped it into the top of the box or hat or whatever, and then someone else had drawn it straight out without shaking it or anything. (This wasn't in the UK btw.)

I was mortified and tried to protest but they were just like 'Well we've drawn all the prizes now 🤷‍♀️' so I got to keep the first prize, which was 50% discount on a birthday party there, valid for up to twelve months! Which I knew was quite a big prize because DS had had his 2nd birthday party there that year and it wasn't cheap. So anyway he got another, much cheaper party at the same venue for his 3rd birthday!

Longdistance · 28/08/2020 03:54

I play the lottery quite a bit with the app (so easy to use), I win varying amounts. Last month I won £160, I win lucky dip tickets for the next drawer and other amounts like £2.60/£5 etc.
I won tickets for the Festival of Speed at Goodwood through Mercedes.
My dB is quite lucky. He’s won bikes, days out. He was on Xfm and won a load of stuff including an iPad and concert tickets. He’s a lucky duck!

Torvean32 · 28/08/2020 04:43

It's a while ago but i won £5000 on a national game at the bingo. I've also won £1000 three times. I guess i had a lucky streak.

I won a years supply of laundry liquid. It was years ago, Curry’s had a competition, just fill in your name and address. Well I was very happy when I got the phone call to say I’d won, but what I didn’t expect was to receive the entire delivery in one. Somehow I just thought they’d send me it a bit at a time.

I had a shed full of Radion laundry liquid, 60 huge bottles! Brilliant prize though.

ComeOnGordon · 28/08/2020 05:40

I won the staff lottery the month I went on May leave 😊 remember it being about £800. That came in very handy (nearly 20 years ago). I won it again a few years later
