AIBU to ask people to confess they also dislike masks for shallow and superficial reasons?

Yes I am clearly a terribly shallow and superficial person Blush Come join me if you are also a shallow superficial person and make me feel better.

This is, by the way, fucking lighthearted I am wearing my masks and behaving myself so don't anyone start being pompous at me Wink

Reasons I don't like wearing my masks.

  1. I have a pretty new septum ring which has cat ears. No one can see it Also, sometimes the cat ears catch on the mask when I am taking it off and this aggravates me.
  2. I have lots and lots and lots and lots of nice lipsticks including a new Burts Bees crayon thing I bought just before lockdown and which is possibly the nicest one ever. No one can see it. Also if I wear it anyway it rubs off on the inside of the mask (this is also very aggravating).
  3. I make my own masks and I am spending a fucking fortune on nice fabric. I can't stop myself.
  4. I am getting fucking spots on my chin, I'm in my 40s and have had about three spots in the whole of my life. I can only conclude this is mask related - although I actually am horribly worried stressed about other stuff (hence my distraction attempt of this lightfuckinghearted thread) and maybe that is causing them, but I will blame said masks anyway.

Come and confess your similar thoughts. I will even tell you which lip crayon it is (seriously it's like the Holy Grail) if you cheer me up.

But...but...but....no-one can see my double chin/jowls!
Masks FTW!

Redraptor · 27/08/2020 17:22

I like them. I've got lovely eyes and naturally long eyelashes but a big nose. I think I rock a mask haha

minnieok · 27/08/2020 17:22

My glasses steam up, not that shallow a reason. I also find them painful, behind the ears but also just the fabric touching my cheeks, I've got a chiffon one that is the lightest fabric (completely useless as a mask) and still it hurts. I've bought a car so I can avoid the train.

Only upside is I haven't worn makeup since March

ElephantsAlltheWayDown · 27/08/2020 17:23

@VeilsForVirtueMasksForVice you still haven't revealed the identity of your fave lip crayon, which may or may not have been the reason I kept reading this thread.

I now also need to know which false eyelashes you're using as well. Plz and thx.

stovetopespresso · 27/08/2020 17:50

my daughter(23) looks amazing in a mask like an eastern Disney princess and blokes full on flirt with her. I bask in reflected glory but look dreadful

MereDintofPandiculation · 27/08/2020 17:52

I live in the sort of area hated by so many on MN - everyone is friendly and smiles or talks when you go out, and I love the feeling of the world being well-disposed towards me. But when they're all in masks it's like so many hostile aliens. I hate it.

No point me smizing. Reactolite glasses go black at the first hint of daylight.

ineedchocolateandanap · 27/08/2020 17:55

Even though everyone is wearing them, I still just feel like a year.

PablosHoney · 27/08/2020 17:55

I want to know all about the lip crayon!

Enough about masks OP, tell us about the lip crayon! I've looked at them before but never got around to buying one.

powershowerforanhour · 27/08/2020 18:02

Every time I pull a stethoscope off one handed (whilst holding a cat in the other hand- owner in the carpark) it catches in the bloody ear loop.

On the plus side, I'm raising a silent cheer for all the women who are enjoying not being told "Cheer up love it might never happen" "Gis a smile love" etc. Silver linings...

PablosHoney · 27/08/2020 18:02

I love lipstick, I have a very strong sense of smell and if you wear them for a long time you can smell your recycled breath, my daughter keeps giving me her damn glasses to look after because of them and they are getting scratched and yesterday a frankly judgemental baby stared at me wearing one.

Runmybathforme · 27/08/2020 18:06

Yes, I hate them with a passion. They take off my foundation, lipstick is a waste of time, leave my face and nose red, and give me spots.

LakieLady · 27/08/2020 18:07

I've just had my feet done, and had to keep my mask on for the whole 90 minutes or so that it took.

By the end, I was feeling quite breathless inside the damn thing.

I also hadn't made the possible link between getting a few spots around my jaw. I'm sixty-fucking-five, I shouldn't be getting zits at my age!

0blio · 27/08/2020 18:08

I find it difficult to concentrate on shopping when wearing a mask. I'm not good at multitasking anyway so when my glasses are fogging up, my face is all sweaty and I'm trying not to get too close to people it's hard to think about what to buy as well.

Mind you it does hide the red nose and chin hairs 😷

Spidey66 · 27/08/2020 18:10

Yep, feel stupid in them and they make my glasses steam up.

Plus I've a tendency to mouth breathe and find them uncomfortable.

I wear one because I have too. I'm not one of those who go all evangelical about them. Hate, hate, hate them. Not convinced they're completely effective either.

0blio · 27/08/2020 18:11

Grin at the judgemental baby.

Forgot about the make up thing. Add that to the list of reasons I hate them.
amillionwishes · 27/08/2020 18:34

I never get spots. Ever.

EXCEPT NOW WHEN I HAVE TO WEAR A MASK FOR HOURS A DAY ON MY WORK COMMUTE AngryAngryAngryEnvy

ScurrilousSquirrel · 27/08/2020 18:47

I am spending a FORTUNE on fat quarter bundles for mask making. I am also making myself late, dithering over which masks to put in my bag for work because the fabrics are all so pretty!

RunningFromInsanity · 27/08/2020 18:52

My eyes are my best feature so I love that I only have to put on eye makeup and not bother trying to contour my wonky nose Grin

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 27/08/2020 18:55

I'm torn on the issue.

Positives.
I make my own mask and some of the fabric is so pretty.
I don't have to shave/tweeze/epilate my chin. I'm almost a man some days based on my beard.

Negatives.
Pretty fabric. I'm obsessed. I've got almost £50 worth in an online basket. The temptations to buy it is insane.
Spots. Mine never went away but are worse than they used to be.
My lips are my prettiest feature and no one can see them.
Grin

Oh yes! Another positive is that it covers my hideous nose!
ReallySpicyCurry · 27/08/2020 19:00

Here for the lip crayon

Scentsandsensible · 27/08/2020 19:15

How had I not realised that the spots around my mouth have been caused by my mask!
