Yes I am clearly a terribly shallow and superficial person Blush Come join me if you are also a shallow superficial person and make me feel better.

This is, by the way, fucking lighthearted I am wearing my masks and behaving myself so don't anyone start being pompous at me Wink

Reasons I don't like wearing my masks.

  1. I have a pretty new septum ring which has cat ears. No one can see it Also, sometimes the cat ears catch on the mask when I am taking it off and this aggravates me.
  2. I have lots and lots and lots and lots of nice lipsticks including a new Burts Bees crayon thing I bought just before lockdown and which is possibly the nicest one ever. No one can see it. Also if I wear it anyway it rubs off on the inside of the mask (this is also very aggravating).
  3. I make my own masks and I am spending a fucking fortune on nice fabric. I can't stop myself.
  4. I am getting fucking spots on my chin, I'm in my 40s and have had about three spots in the whole of my life. I can only conclude this is mask related - although I actually am horribly worried stressed about other stuff (hence my distraction attempt of this lightfuckinghearted thread) and maybe that is causing them, but I will blame said masks anyway.

Come and confess your similar thoughts. I will even tell you which lip crayon it is (seriously it's like the Holy Grail) if you cheer me up.

It rubs my make up off and gives me spots. Here's a sign of the times though. I bought a new polka dot mask this week. I tried it on and DP said it really suited me. Still not sure how to take that.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 27/08/2020 16:21

Whilst were being superficial can i add a benefit.... Im getting through less makeup... by the time I have sunglasses on and a mask theres not much point Grin

Nuffaluff · 27/08/2020 16:26

I hate it
My face gets wet and hot from all the breathing.
I have to repeat myself all the time because people can’t hear me.
When I take it off my foundation is inside the mask and no longer on my face.
(I always wear them when required).

Gunpowder · 27/08/2020 16:26

I’m even more shallow, I quite like my jaw and usually distract people from how tired I am by smiling lots. I hate my liney forehead. I definitely look unattractive in a mask. Am strongly considering Botox.

Also I am missing all the non verbal communication. Sad At the risk of being ridiculous and dramatic I didn’t realise how much all those tiny moments with strangers or acquaintances meant until they’d gone.

I’m being good and wearing mine too. I know it’s for the best but I am sad about it too OP. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to secretly complain!

Gunpowder · 27/08/2020 16:28

Ohhh and since I had (what I assume was) corona in March I can’t hear anything so I really rely on lip-reading. So that’s hard too.

RaspberryToupee · 27/08/2020 16:28

I quite like the masks, especially with my sunglasses because it perfectly hides my facial expression. I’ve never been good at hiding my opinion of someone and what they’re saying from my face. Now, I can almost get away without people knowing I think they’re stupid. Almost. Need to still work on running my mouth...

I’ve can do resting bitch face and eye rolls to my hearts content.

Notredamn · 27/08/2020 16:31

I'll never not feel like a right wally wearing one. I bought a washable one with a design on it but felt like even more of a prat because then it looked like I get some sort of sartorial enjoyment out of wearing masks.
They fuck my lipstick up. And worst of all they make me sweat a bit Angry

BaconsLaw · 27/08/2020 16:31

It plays havoc with my lipstick and I love lipstick.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 27/08/2020 16:32

My friend got another ear piercing the other day and she said that while she was in the store two separate people came in cos their masks had ripped/damaged their nose rings 😱

Notredamn · 27/08/2020 16:35

Oh, and I caught myself mouth breathing yesterday when I didn't even have the mask on! Because I'm in the habit of doing it whilst wearing one! I hope no one saw.

Frazzled13 · 27/08/2020 16:35

I don't like wearing a mask, I find them uncomfortable. However, I do hate my smile and wonky teeth so I do like that aspect of them

minipie · 27/08/2020 16:38

I’ve had spots for years. Mask rubs off my concealer (in the places where it touches) and exposes my spots.

Also calls attention to my dark circles.

Moonshinemisses · 27/08/2020 16:39

Can I say I love masks for shallow & superficial reasons. Sometimes I can be a grumpy bugger & hate having to make small talk when I see someone in the street. With my mask & sunnies on you cant tell it's me. I love it.

VeilsForVirtueMasksForVice · 27/08/2020 16:40

Now not being able to hear or understand people, is not a superficial or shallow reason It's really shit.

Fillers and lipsticks and piercings and hiding chin hairs, all superficial and yet you're allowed to complain about them on this thread (I want to say it's a safe space but I'm not a wanker Grin)

People with ears being pulled out with ear loops, you need your loops/masks adjusting! I may or may not have bought three differently shaped bodkins to make the insertion of ear loops much quicker. If you live near me (in Shallowville) I would happily make new loops for you.

I'm a little worried about patterns being prattish now though. I have many many patterns. Many.

I'm thinking I need to buy new sunglasses now.

May I also recommend to lipstick fans sad about masks...false eyelashes! Now I pulled a Hmm face when my DC suggested them as I didn't want to be one of those Instagram pouting people with gigantic terrifying lashes, but goodness me, the right ones make a difference. I use ones that are only 3/4 of your lash line and are "accent" or something. I love them.

Also, another positive. When you are wearing a mask and you open your phone camera and accidentally take a photo of your own face from underneath, having a mask on makes it a far less traumatic experience.

Londonmummy66 · 27/08/2020 16:44

I am wearing them when and where required but I really loathe them. They make me feel hot and I hate the way the fabric moves in and out as I breathe. Also I have quite a small head so the batch I made before I found a pattern for children and teenagers are a bit on the big side and my eyelashes catch on it sometimes which is irritating.

LolaSmiles · 27/08/2020 16:50

I'm not a lipstick person but really want to try a few new ones. Masks make this not worth the while and if the wind changes my short lived interest in makeup will disappear.

RaspberryToupee I'm loving the ability to mouth 'for fucks sake' behind my mask when people are chronically stupid. Grin

MilktheMilk · 27/08/2020 16:57

Getting spots too 👎🏼 I've never been spotty, even as a teenager, but since I've started wearing masks I'm constantly getting spots around my jawline, chin and currently got a huge one on my top lip.

I don't like masks also because I wear make up everyday and it rubs on my nose and makes it pink and shiny.

Snaketime · 27/08/2020 17:05

I hate them, it causes my glasses to steam up so I can't see what I am doing and wearing them irritates the eczema around my eye.

ShesMadeATwatOfMePam · 27/08/2020 17:08

I hate them, but also i always feel intense pressure to smile at people in shops and be polite. When I've got my mask on i don't need to cos they can't see if I'm smiling anyway. But yeah masks are shit.

GroupSects · 27/08/2020 17:09

I’ve had 2 new ear piercings recently and I’m scared the loop will catch on them so I have to put one loop around my side ponytail instead. This is a pain and makes my mask very tight across my face which leads to problem 2...

It rubs my make up off. I hate my skin and never venture out without foundation. I have now taken to carrying my beauty blender with me so I can retouch my face when I take my mask off. This makes me ever so vain I know but I just feel shit otherwise.

DianaT1969 · 27/08/2020 17:12

I don't give them any head space at all. I stick it on when I enter a shop or train. Stick it in my bag after. Zero inconvenience as I don't have any health problems.

CookieMumsters · 27/08/2020 17:15

I can FEEL the mask on the back of my earrings. It doesn't hurt, they dont pull, but I can feel it Angry

GroupSects · 27/08/2020 17:17

@DianaT1969 You must feel so much better for getting that off your chest Grin

LioneIRichTea · 27/08/2020 17:20

I feel like a tit. Also, ever since DH described them as 'face knickers' I can't get the image out of my head.

The medical/disposable ones do look like sanitary towels 😆
