AIBU to be so excited to be overweight?

Sorry for abusing AIBU but I’ve really hit a milestone today.

I’ve been losing weight for about a year and a half now after stepping on the scales at 17 and a half stone. I decided enough was enough and I needed to get really serious about losing weight. This was hampered slightly by unexpectedly falling pregnant just under a year ago. I tried to be really careful in pregnancy not to put on unnecessary weight and managed pretty well with just trying to be healthy.

Since giving birth three months ago I’ve been back on the weightloss wagon - it’s been tricky to get the balance as I’m exclusively breastfeeding so I’ve worked to find the sweet spot of calories that help me lose weight, but still give me enough not to jeopardise my supply or leave me feeling unwell.

I stood on the scales this morning to see 13 stone 8, which at my height puts me in the overweight bmi bracket rather than the obese bracket for the first time in a long time! I know I still have a long way to go and I still weigh a lot more than I should but this feels like a real milestone. Next one will be when I reach a healthy weight!

Well done you! Wish I had your commitment.

Lilybet1980 · 27/08/2020 15:59

Amazing! Particularly impressed that you’ve managed to lose weight on top of the initial baby weight whilst BF. I was constantly hungry until DC increased the solids intake at around 8 months. You should be super proud of yourself!

HumphreyGoodmanswife · 27/08/2020 16:00

That's amazing! Well done!

Hiphopopotamus · 27/08/2020 16:21

Ah thanks everyone - you’re all so lovely! Hmm I’m not sure about any tips - what’s worked for me is really strict calorie counting based on my TDEE (so continually adjusted every time I drop a pound) I log absolutely everything on the Lose It app - every splash of oil and dollop of ketchup to make sure I stick to it. I also reduce my carbs after lunchtime so my dinner tends to be low carb and it stops the evening snacking. That’s it really - no magic solution, just quite boring counting!

You should be excited! Grin
I'm very happy for you and congratulations on seeing your hard work pay off! Thanks for posting as well it's great motivation for others trying to loose.

Hiphopopotamus · 27/08/2020 16:23

I have to say my little girl is now my biggest motivation - she deserves a mum with all the energy to run around with her. I also want to be a healthy weight by the time she’s able to notice my eating habits, so I can just model a healthy balanced diet to her with no overeating or dieting!

Well done OP!

Mamanchen · 27/08/2020 16:28

Congratulations OP! What an amazing achievement!

I went from obese (a few lbs away from morbidly obese) to overweight to healthy weight, and have been maintaining for over a year. I still remember excitedly shouting down the phone at my best friend “I’m not obese anymore!” Finally realising that I really was able to do this!

OliBolsMum · 27/08/2020 16:29

Well done OP! That's an amazing achievement! Grin

listsandbudgets · 27/08/2020 16:30

Absolutely brilliant OP and a great inspiration to me - I'm still obese and can't wait to be overweight but I've got a long way to go. I only started trying to lose weight about a fortnight ago though and I'm down 1 bmi point now which is a start.

Congratulations, enjoy being overweight and come and tell us when you hit a healthy weight which with your determination, you certainly will.
