AIBU to think grey decor is so dull?

Looking at houses for sale. Not to move, just to have a nosy. There is so much grey! Is it just me or is it a bit boring and samey?

For example... I found this, and whilst it's a lovely house, the decor is so... grey and boring!

It's like the photos have been taken with a b&w filter on!

There's so many of my friends who have painted a room / rooms / the whole house grey... but I love a bit of colour! Fine to want something neutral, but I think beige/creams are much nicer & warmer.

YABU = grey is great & less is more
YANBU = grey is dull, gimme some colour!

I really like greys, and I really like beige and cream. I also like pops of colour. Haha! I guess I like a lot of things. I do really appreciate decor that is more on the minimalist side. Lots of cluttery tat makes me crazy.

I like grey but I also like colour alongside the grey. The house you linked is white and grey so it looks boring. If they had some teal/ yellow/ green/ pink etc alongside the grey rather than plain white it would look much better.

I personally don’t like stark white walls or cream shades on walls - very boring and clinical. Beige can be ok but it depends on the shade and what other colours have been added to give it a bit of life.

The very fact that there are so many homes decorated grey clearly suggests that there are plenty of people who disagree with you. It's personal taste; nothing more, nothing less. Don't like it, don't paint your house grey.

Totally agree

My living room is turquoise and white with an accent of mustard.

Absolutely love it.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/08/2020 00:18

YANBU

Grey is depressing, like a perpetual overcast day in the house
I like colour !
e.g. I had bright red tiles in my kitchen Grin

QuestionableMouse · 27/08/2020 00:21

My bedroom is grey, but with pink and blue. It's lovely but I'd hate having the whole house done like it.

This inspired my bedroom.

YANBU Grey is just the current fashion. It'll be the equivalent of avocado bathroom suites or woodchip wallpaper in a year or two.

KNain · 27/08/2020 00:31

I don't think the grey in that house is the problem. It's just a bit stark, but then it is for sale so maybe that's why! It could be any colour and would still look empty, unloved and uninhabited.

I love grey as a neutral base. It doesn't clash, it's clean, it can be bright and fresh or warm and cozy. White looks clinical. Beige and cream are too easy to stray into Magnolia territory. Having spent many years working in prisons I just couldn't have anything resembling magnolia walls!!

MistyGreenAndBlue · 27/08/2020 00:37

Hate grey. Would rather have magnolia tbh.

Teddy1970 · 27/08/2020 00:37

Agreed it's been done to death, it's so dull and it seems like every new build show home has grey furnishings and carpets. I never thought Battleship grey would be so popular!

Sunshineboo · 27/08/2020 00:41

it’s having a rather long moment but it will pass. bit like twigs and the like from a fair few years ago.

I think this is my issue with grey. For me, it's a fashion that is so over. It's been done to death. Why don't people try something a bit more interesting?
Emeraldshamrock · 27/08/2020 00:45

A home decorated head to toe in bland neutrals magnolia/cream/white are just as drab as grey IMO without accessories.
I do think grey or any of the above is nice with the right homewares.

Titsywoo · 27/08/2020 00:49

What i hate is how many people are painting the outside of their houses grey now. Makes it feel like you're living in the soviet bloc.

Nikori · 27/08/2020 00:50

I've been watching Selling Sunset and none of the houses on it have grey. I wonder if it is more a British thing.

MollysMummy2010 · 27/08/2020 00:57

I love that house - I am just digging down the back of the (grey) sofa to see if I can find the £££££ I need....it's only up the road from me too.....

Shmithecat2 · 27/08/2020 00:58

YANBU. It just shows a complete lack of thought, originality or inspiration. Unless of course, you aspire to have your home look like complete pages of a Next Home catalogue. The odd bit of grey here or there is fine, as it coordinates well with lots of colours. Just a shame that lots of people don't have the imagination to use them.

areyoubeingserviced · 27/08/2020 00:59

Not a fan of all grey tbh, particularly with all the mirror/ diamanté furnishings and the crushed grey velvet sofas. It shows a lack of imagination . One or two rooms painted grey is ok, but not practically every room in the house.

sbhydrogen · 27/08/2020 01:05

I like grey walls but not walls and sofas, etc. Gimme that SPLASH of colour!

earsup · 27/08/2020 01:19

It's everywhere..those ridiculous Farrell and ball stupid named colours so depressing and dull and they all do the same...I hate them !

eveningfalls · 27/08/2020 01:23

YANBU. Grey is typically for people who don't really feel confident in their colour choices or in using colour. It tends to work well with other confident colours used in furnishings or decor (just as white does and magnolia did 20 years ago). I wouldn't have a huge problem with it if a nice proportion of colour is used somewhere else in the room. But I would have a massive problem if a professional interior designer used grey and the horrible 'pop' of colour theme. The grey and textured grey furnishings and ... oh god it's a footballers wife!

CyberNan · 27/08/2020 01:25

are you having a laugh...? that house is stunning.

I think its more unreasonable that you have a "nosy" at other peoples homes when you don't have a serious intent.

get a life and stop snooping into other peoples living rooms.

Shmithecat2 · 27/08/2020 01:26

Are you the vendor CyberNan?

Nikori · 27/08/2020 01:28

The outside of the house is amazing, but the inside looks cheap and tacky. Whoever did the staging needs to be fired.
