To HATE washing my hair?

poorlittledoggy · 26/08/2020 20:27

I can't be the only one surely.
I just cannot bare washing my hair.
I'll do absolutely anything to put off doing it. Dry shampoo, messy bun, thick headband.
Why is it such a ball ache?
Just gone 9 days and finally washed it.
It's blonde and frizzy so never looks greasy, doesn't ever smell due to the dry shampoo.
In fact it looks much better, glossier and less frizzy after about 5 days.
It's so thick and if I go to bed with it damp then it will still be damp at lunch time the next day.
If I cut it short then I hate it even more as I have to wash it more frequently as I can't tie it back.
Please tell me I'm not the only one?

I have very fine hair and lots of it. Even though I'm on the down hill slope to 60 it's still quite thick. And it tangles atrociously. Not helped by my mid life crisis madness of going blonde and then pink and purple. Loving being furloughed from a customer facing job. Usually I wash it twice a week. It's on day seven now and I'll give it another day if I can.

sunnysidegold · 26/08/2020 20:34

It really puts me off showering! The thought of shampooing and then conditioning, combing and drying.....and then it still looks a bit rubbish.

Once in the shower I kind of enjoy it but it's the thought of having to do it that annoys me!

poorlittledoggy · 26/08/2020 20:36

I don't even feel much better now I've washed it. I've either got the palaver of 30 mins blow drying and then straightening, or I can go to bed with it wet and blow dry it in the morning.

I can’t relate at all but there’s actually lots of people who wash with water only, no shampoo, wash with conditioner etc - and they say it works for them. Personally I wash my hair every two days, I could stretch to three but I don’t like the feeling of it.
I’d suggest having a look into some of these methods. Most of them advocate stretching washes for as long as possible to allow your natural oils to nourish your hair. That’s the idea, anyway.
You might consider getting it thinner at the hairdresser? That way you could take some of the weight out of it without losing length.

*thinned

WhyIsItSoHardToPickAUsername · 26/08/2020 20:38

I don't find it a hassle at all but maybe mine dries quicker than yours.

I'd be surprised if it didn't smell though tbh, you probably just can't smell it. I used to work with someone who would go 7-10 days between washing her hair, she used dry shampoos and hair perfume etc. When you were close enough to her you could still smell a dirty, greasy hair smell and see it looked dirty where the dry shampoo had clumped together right next to her scalp (I did have reason to be close enough to see her scalp btw).
She was otherwise a clean person, washed her body everyday but her hair did smell.

Whatifitallgoesright · 26/08/2020 20:39

I put it in a topknot in the shower, couldn't bear washing hair every time I shower, life's too short. Too short for showering much either if I'm honest. 7 days here. Will do it tomorrow. I like taking it out of pony tail and it staying in same position - scares the children.

HoratiotheHorsefly · 26/08/2020 20:39

I'm so excited for the cooler months because I can wash my hair less than twice a week, I hate washing my hair and drying it despite have a Dyson airwrap complete so it's easy.

I have fine hair but lots of it and it's curly but a total ball ache leaving it curly.

Northernsoullover · 26/08/2020 20:40

I've just had a bath (I only have one if I want to relax otherwise I shower) and I must have spent 10 minutes dithering about washing it. It did need it because this morning was a dry shampoo job but yes I hate doing it. Unfortunately my hair is so oily that I have to do it every day. Even dry shampoo has its work cut out.

MistyMinge2 · 26/08/2020 20:40

I'm with you OP. Such a bloody ballache. One of the things I've enjoyed about working from home is less faffing with hair and getting ready in the mornings. I've just had a particularly shit hair cut and if I don't try and do something with it after I've washed it, it looks shitter. So bloody annoying.

poorlittledoggy · 26/08/2020 20:40

That's a point, I did get it thinned for a while, but not for the past couple of years.
Might look into it again.

No problem washing it but HATE drying it!! I have to mentally work up to it and bribe myself (sometimes I time it so I know that when 10 mins is up, it's over).

Marlena1 · 26/08/2020 20:42

Plus I got moisturiser in my side fringe so even though I did it this morning, Ill need to do that bit againAngry

isthismylifenow · 26/08/2020 20:43

I get you. I usually need to wash mine every second day but I've resorted to dry shampoo on the 3rs even though my scalp doesn't fancy that much.

It's the drying it part that gets me. As I've got older my hair has become thicker, I think it's reverse from what it should be, and it takes forever to dry now. During lockdown it was the worst as I get it thinned out at each cut. And I have to blow dry mine due to the style. So no, you are not alone.

Have to wash it in the morning so I have to get up earlier. Sigh

JeremyIronsBenFolds · 26/08/2020 20:43

Completely agree - I hate washing my hair, such a chore! I leave it as long as I can, usually 2x a week, in these COVID times maybe once, unless I have a Zoom meeting!

I switch my shampoos around to try and make it more interesting, I’m rotating between 4 different sets right now. My hairs ostensibly easy, fine and straight, and I’ve completely left off blow drying it at the moment. I just feel like a bit of my soul is dying when I do it...

AbyssusAbyssumInvocat · 26/08/2020 20:43

I'm shocked. I don't feel clean unless I have washed my hair. A body shower only is like a half job and I'm half clean. I wash it everyday!

Drying it is a full on pain in the arse. God love lockdown, I am just piling it on top of my head and putting it in a bobble.

morefun · 26/08/2020 20:44

Mine gets greasy really quickly (lots of it, but straight and fine).

Maybe you could embrace the unwashed thing? Lots of people do.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 26/08/2020 20:45

I love having clean hair but yeah, the actual washing bit is a faff. Super long, super thick hair here too. I usually wash it every third day (after I’ve been for a run so have no choice!) and it’s up (braids, ponytail, bun, whatever) 99% of the time. I find short hair even more hassle as it needs drying and styling etc - at least with long hair I just wash it, put it back up and carry on with my life for another few days!

formerbabe · 26/08/2020 20:45

Hate it too. Takes ages to dry and straighten...it's the bane of my life

poorlittledoggy · 26/08/2020 20:46

Still procrastinating so I don't have to dry it!
Not even brushed it post wash yet.
I'm so jealous of short boy hair. My hair is too curly to pull it off and my face is too fat!

OP posts:
poorlittledoggy · 26/08/2020 20:47

I do shower every day, sometimes twice a day for those that were wondering!
It's just the hair washing I can't stand!

OP posts:
hastingsmua1 · 26/08/2020 20:49

Same. It’s such a chore. Mainly because I have dry/damaged bleached blonde so every wash needs either olaplex or deep conditioner left on for an hour, or a purple toning shampoo/mask, to keep it looking and feeling decent. I can never just wash and go

WhyIsItSoHardToPickAUsername · 26/08/2020 20:50

Why don't you watch Netflix on a tablet with earphones in and just sit with a diffuser under/on your hair on low if it's curly. Make it less of a task. Embrace your curls

hastingsmua1 · 26/08/2020 20:50

I shower twice a day by the way. Shower caps and adjustable shower heads exist!

The80sweregreat · 26/08/2020 20:51

I hate washing my hair too. It the drying that's annoying as it's so thick and wavy and takes ages to dry.
I can't leave it longer than three days as it feels and smells awful so I have to wash it again.
Having it cut tomorrow; will look nice for a few days then be back to 'my normal ' which is never the same.
