To HATE washing my hair?

poorlittledoggy · 26/08/2020 20:27

I can't be the only one surely.
I just cannot bare washing my hair.
I'll do absolutely anything to put off doing it. Dry shampoo, messy bun, thick headband.
Why is it such a ball ache?
Just gone 9 days and finally washed it.
It's blonde and frizzy so never looks greasy, doesn't ever smell due to the dry shampoo.
In fact it looks much better, glossier and less frizzy after about 5 days.
It's so thick and if I go to bed with it damp then it will still be damp at lunch time the next day.
If I cut it short then I hate it even more as I have to wash it more frequently as I can't tie it back.
Please tell me I'm not the only one?

Me too. Fucking hate having to wash my hair and condition it. It's so thick and curly. Gets tatty really quickly. You would imagine I'd do it daily as it would be easier. But no, 45 mins once a week fighting with the tatty twat is more than enough.

AnneLovesGilbert · 26/08/2020 20:52

Oh no I love washing mine! Long since given up on drying it unless it’s deep mid winter and it’s too cold to leave it. I blast my fringe and straighten it every few days. I wash it twice a week and it’s a lovely process that makes me feel lovely.

U2HasTheEdge · 26/08/2020 20:55

@poorlittledoggy

That's a point, I did get it thinned for a while, but not for the past couple of years. Might look into it again.
Undercut.

Transformed my hair life. I have super thick hair and an undercut is a game changer.

It's still thick but much more manageable. You only notice it when I pile my hair on the top of my head.

SadSoVerySad · 26/08/2020 20:56

I hate washing my hair too. I'm a black woman and it's not good for our hair to wash it too often like every day or every other day.

So I wash it once a week or every two weeks. What I hate even more, is washing my hair while having a shower. I feel like I'm drowning if I do. So hair washing is sepate from showers (which I have daily 😊).

skylarkdescending · 26/08/2020 20:56

Is your hair curly OP?
Why don't you try the curly girl method? You 'wash' every few days/ once per week with conditioner and style each day and refresh in between. If your hair is frizzy it is crying out for moisture. Lots of FB groups give great advice for curlies.

dwiz8 · 26/08/2020 20:57

Yanbu

It's such a chore, drying it as well fuck that

In lockdown I'm getting so gross, washing it every week - last month I went two weeks without realising it as I always have my hair up

2Rebecca · 26/08/2020 20:57

I hate it too, and going to the hairdresser and the idea of a spa day

splishsplashsploshsplishsplash · 26/08/2020 20:59

Yep! Absolutely hate drying it, seriously hate it! I've become lazy since lockdown and really drag it out now. When I eventually return to the office I'll have to do it more often again, the effort!

1Morewineplease · 26/08/2020 21:00

I hate it with a vengeance. I’ll go weeks in between shampoos.
I’ll occasionally use a dry shampoo but generally speaking , I leave it until I can’t go on. I have thick wavy , below shoulder length hair and it seems ok.
I pull it back, pile it high or just leave it.
I’ve always treated my hair like this as I had psoriasis on my scalp for years in my teens and twenties. Had numerous prescription potions which only worked for a short while.
An elderly lady in a pharmacy , while I was on holiday ( I went in about my scalp) told me to stop going to hairdressers ( I was going every 4-6 weeks) and to stop using products, just use baby shampoo , occasionally.
This really helped but I’d often lapse for fear of being seen as skanky.
In my fifties now. Rarely go to the hairdressers, I don’t use products on my hair, and only use very gentle , natural products on my hair if I need to.
I get compliments on my hair ... mainly because it’s dark brown with hardly any grey hair.
I’ve always wondered about the chemicals in hair products.

year5teacher · 26/08/2020 21:03

I do find it strange that people find it such a hassle. Mine is tailbone length and it dries fairly quickly and isn’t that much of a pain. Is it worse for curly hair?

hollieberrie · 26/08/2020 21:03

Oh yes, i HATE it. I have loads of hair and its just really time consuming and drying and styling it makes me so hot and grumpy.

I have a strict routine now to minimise the pain. Monday morning early - wash, dry & style so it looks nice for work. Keep it like this all week, adding dry shampoo daily and a quick hot brush at the front if needed - generally i prefer the lived in look so its at its best by Wed / Thurs.

Friday eve / Sat morning - wash again, no drying or styling this time, keep up in a messy bun for the weekend. Done.

TheTeenageYears · 26/08/2020 21:04

I have to wash my hair every other day. On the one hand I know it will look better on a wash day but the non hair washing day is such a relief as it only takes about 10 minutes to brush teeth, shower and get dressed. I have fairly fine hair which air dry's pretty quickly and only run the hairdryer over for about 3 mins after 45 mins of leaving to dry for as long as possible. The thought of holding up a hairdryer long enough to dry from wet if required is definitely enough to put me off and on the very rare occasion it's necessary I use two hairdryers and then use straighteners to smooth over.

flashbac · 26/08/2020 21:04

Get a hidden undercut. Best thing if you have too much hair.

Squirrelblanket · 26/08/2020 21:05

I don't mind washing it as such, it's the drying I hate. I wash it twice a week unless I'm exercising. It's quite dry so I can get away with this.

doadeer · 26/08/2020 21:07

Mine is down to my waist and thick - it's really a right pain to wash but I love the smell of fresh hair. I wash mine when it stops smelling like shampoo which is usually day 5. I have a toddler so it's a messy bun 80% of the time. I think it gets greasier quicker if I have it down and play with it a lot

toiletpaper · 26/08/2020 21:10

I bloody hate washing my hair!! If I'm not staying at home I have to wash my hair every day as after approx 24 hours it's greasy - as it is now and I washed it yesterday morning. My poor OH has to wash his every 12 hours or so as it gets greasier quicker than mine

HemlockStarglimmer · 26/08/2020 21:10

In my case it's the combing out. Even with eye wateringly expensive shampoos and conditioners for bleached and dyed hair and being careful not to scrub my hair, it takes half an hour to get all the knots out when my hair is wet.
And yes I could get it cut short but then I'd have to wash it more often and I'd lose all the lovely colours I pay a fortune to have put in it.

Deux · 26/08/2020 21:17

Goodness. I can relate a bit. I’m someone who always had short hair, chin length at most. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve tried to grow it out. Until lockdown and 8 months between haircuts.

I’ve just started to experience this hair drying angst. When short I’d wash and dry it everyday but now I’m finding it such a chore and it’s only just past my shoulders. Confused. When confined to home I’d just leave it to air dry but it takes forever. Fine hair and loads of it. Now that I’m out and about more I feel I need to make more of an effort.

I can’t go more than 2 days so I’m going to have to find a solution. I intend to grow it out about another 3 inches. What to do? It’s all new to me, having to deal with my hair.

ravensoaponarope · 26/08/2020 21:18

I cut mine super short because it's so thick I have trouble rinsing it otherwise.

poorlittledoggy · 26/08/2020 21:20

I'm really really tempted by an undercut. Although when I asked the young trendies at work if I could get away with it they said I was slightly on the old side.
I'm mid 30s and really really want one.

OP posts:
Msgiggles30 · 26/08/2020 21:21

I have really long hair. Okay to wash but bloody detest drying it. However I dont feel properly clean unless I've washed it everyday - just a personal thing if any water sweat gets on it during a shower I cant stand it and have to wash it! So I am always in a cycle of hairdryer hatred, normally let it dry for 2 hours naturally before I get the hairdryer out Grin and even then dont fully dry it!

Jayaywhynot · 26/08/2020 21:22

I wash my hair every other day and absolutely hate it, I have a straight bob and use a lot of hair products to keep it looking sleek so it needs washing often or it feels heavy, I hate drying it and straightening it

SonjaMorgan · 26/08/2020 21:24

I like washing mine everyday. I have recently started trying to leave it 2 days as it can start to look greasy in less than 24 hours but my scalp itches so much.

jrb123 · 26/08/2020 21:27

I have a bath and wash and blow dry my hair every morning. It doesn't take long and it sets me up for the day. Since lockdown I've left it to every second day a few times, but it never looks right the second day and I spend the day wishing I had just got on and washed it. Blow drying and styling takes less than five minutes, but my hair is short. I've discovered that it styles more easily without conditioner, and if it's frizzy I just put a little oil on after styling. Job done!

flashbac · 26/08/2020 21:27

@poorlittledoggy

Do the undercut! I'm nearly 40 and it's the best thing I've done. Nobody else can see it. It's made my hair so much more manageable. My OH does it for me.
