According to my brother he thinks that when the vacine becomes available, we will be forced to have it or refused to travel, work etc. He thinks it’s all about people control, Bill Gates is involved he says, also 5G is a huge part of it. Is he mad or what?

dappledsunshine · 26/08/2020 18:51

Yes. Yes he is.

TheHappyHerbivore · 26/08/2020 19:18

Yes he is.

Mysterian · 26/08/2020 19:21

Yup. Mad.

Vaccines will never be compulsory. You'll just have to home school, take your own transport, avoid shops etc etc

Monkeynuts18 · 26/08/2020 19:23

Well the 5G and Bill Gates thing is nonsense. I think it’s very unlikely that the vaccine would be compulsory in this country although I could see a situation where certain countries insist on proof of vaccination before allowing you to enter. Like yellow fever.

Bluewavescrashing · 26/08/2020 19:24

He is a conspiracy theorist.

However I think there might be a covid passport ie if you've had the vaccine you can travel internationally, work in busy environments etc. Makes sense.

speakout · 26/08/2020 19:25

Vaccines cannot be enforced worldwide- there will be country to country variation.

Some countries have strict vaccine policies- some European counties and Australia will not allow children to attend state school for instance without an MMR.
It would be a pretty harsh state to force vaccinations- and unenforcable in practice- do you pin someone to a bed and strap them in while gagged and police in attandance?

However there may be circumstances which limit freedoms of those who refuse vaccination. No airline travel or no working within NHS or teaching perhaps.
No one will be forced- not in the UK at least.

DonnaDonna01 · 26/08/2020 19:26

I can’t see it being compulsory but I can see it becoming difficult to do certain things if you haven’t had it. Foreign travel being the main one I would think and other things may become an issue if you haven’t had the vaccine.

BiBabbles · 26/08/2020 19:30

I don't see the rules on vaccines being much different to now - not compulsory, but some jobs, travel visas, and similar may require them.

Burnthurst187 · 26/08/2020 19:30

We can't be made to do anything. People all around us are disobeying rules and regulations all day, every day

You're brother probably thinks the earth is flat and that Tupac is still alive

tiredanddangerous · 26/08/2020 19:31

I don't think it'll be compulsory but I think people who choose not to have it might have certain restrictions placed on them (regarding travel etc)

ConquestEmpireHungerPlague · 26/08/2020 19:40

Unlikely in the UK, I think, except perhaps for HCPs. Australia announced it would be compulsory a week or so ago and had to row back before the end of the day because there was such an outcry.

AgeLikeWine · 26/08/2020 19:45

No.

This is Britain, not North Korea.

It is, however, very likely that people who refuse to be vaccinated will face serious restrictions on where they can go and what they can do. For example, they may not be allowed inside airports, railway stations, gyms, restaurants, theatres, concert venues, sports stadia etc etc.

minnieok · 26/08/2020 19:50

Vaccines are very unlikely to be compulsory in the U.K. BUT they may be compulsory for certain occupations, to visit other countries etc. There's already cases with other diseases for this

titchy · 26/08/2020 20:00

Yeah he's right. Bill Gates intends to use the vaccine to insert an upgrade chip into all of us so we all become human 2.0

Why else would he spend billions of his own money on a vaccine.

PiataMaiNei · 26/08/2020 20:04

It's not going to be compulsory here, but it wouldn't surprise me if either the vaccine or proof of immunity were required to participate in certain activities.

speakout · 26/08/2020 20:04

Vaccines are very unlikely to be compulsory in the U.K. BUT they may be compulsory for certain occupations,

Still not "compulsory" though.
A condition of employment- no more.

Kiire · 26/08/2020 20:05

Bill Gates is involved he says, also 5G is a huge part of it. Is he mad or what?

Yes, the 5g, Bill Gates, all linking covid is conspiracy nonsense

pinkbalconyrailing · 26/08/2020 20:05

vaccine assuch will nog be compulsory.
it might be a condition of your job though.
fwiw if I were offered it I would gladly be vaccinated.

eveningsong · 26/08/2020 20:07

No vaccine will ever be compulsory. There may be circumstances where you are refused admission or certain services if you have not had one, but that will probably be rare.

Siepie · 26/08/2020 20:07

He's definitely mad with 5G conspiracy theories. I don't think vaccines will become compulsory in this country - other vaccines aren't compulsory, even for diseases that have a higher mortality rate than covid.

Some countries already make it compulsory for children to have certain vaccines in order to go to state schools. Children who aren't vaccinated can still be homeschooled or go to private schools. There's been some discussion of this in the UK before for vaccines like MMR, so I suppose it's possible but personally I think it's unlikely.

Similarly, some countries already require certain vaccines before you can enter, commonly for yellow fever. I think that a lot of countries will extend this for coronavirus too.

Gancanny · 26/08/2020 20:15

I don't think it will become compulsory in the UK however I do think that if take-up of the vaccine is exceptionally low then there may be restrictions on accessing services for people who have chosen not to have it. Boris Johnson has made various remarks in the press before now about the dangers of anti-vaxxers. That's all hypothetical though and even if the government did propose measures to encourage people to get vaccinated that's not to say they'd ever be implemented.

Other countries may make the vaccination a condition of entry in which case people who have not had it will find their travel options limited. Some employers make also make it a condition of employment which, again, would limit the options of those who do not want to have it done.

The Bill Gates, microchips, 5G, mind control stuff is all gubbins.

underneaththeash · 26/08/2020 20:21

Anyone refusing vaccines apparently will be made to sail off the side of the earth (as it’s flat).
But no, they’ll be compulsory for HCP only. Individual companies can obviously make them compulsory too.

LakieLady · 26/08/2020 20:23

The 5G bit is mad, but I get so pissed off with anti-vaxxers jeopardising the health of those children who can't be vaccinated that I could be tempted to support vaccinations being compulsory.

I can remember children at school who'd lost siblings to measles and I was very unwell when I had it as a toddler. It was touch and go whether I'd have to go into hospital and my mother was really worried I wouldn't make it. A neighbour had a daughter who was visually and hearing impaired because her mother had contracted rubella during pregnancy. Mumps is no laughing matter either, I had it when I was 13 and I was ill for 3 weeks.

I think it's fantastic that smallpox has been eradicated and polio is well on the way. It would be great to see some of the other infectious diseases go the same way.

latticechaos · 26/08/2020 20:26

Oh goodness your brother needs to change his reading matter!

DaisyDreaming · 26/08/2020 20:26

Yes your brother is mad. Honestly 5G is just an insane theory, you could state all the science as to why it’s a bonkers theory or you could just look at the countries with covid who also don’t have 5G!
