According to my brother he thinks that when the vacine becomes available, we will be forced to have it or refused to travel, work etc. He thinks it’s all about people control, Bill Gates is involved he says, also 5G is a huge part of it. Is he mad or what?

I suspect that care homes won’t give you a job without a vaccination certificate for example. And self employed people might find a vaccination certificate useful - mobile hairdressers for example might find their customers vote with their feet if they don’t have one.

MissConductUS · 26/08/2020 20:30

Your brother has fallen down the conspiracy theory rabbit hole. The 5G/Microchiping/Bill Gates thing is obvious and utter rubbish.

I hope they make it compulsory for state school attendence. I'm sure it will be for heath care workers. I'm in the US.

How does the voting work in your scenario? Am confused Confused
Emmelina · 26/08/2020 20:32

He does sound a bit bonkers.
Though I think some countries may require you to have had the vaccine to travel there.

PanamaPattie · 26/08/2020 20:34

As a box of frogs. I hope he's childless.

littlebillie · 26/08/2020 20:43

Erm yes and he sounds unwell

MissConductUS · 26/08/2020 20:44

I've nursed dozens of covid patients in the last 5 months. It's an utterly horrid disease if you get a severe case. It really burns me that a year from now I'm going to get new covid patients coming into A&E who could have had the vaccine but refused it over this idiocy.

Porcupineinwaiting · 26/08/2020 21:13

Mad, maybe? Certainly gullible.

SimonJT · 26/08/2020 21:16

It could be made compulsory for entry into certain countries, like the yellow fever vaccine. For somewhere like NZ that would be a sensible option as they have managed containment so well.

LouiseNW · 26/08/2020 21:27

You really don’t need to ask, surely?

Worryingly, people with his delusions who would once have just been pitied, smiled at or avoided are quite dangerous now. BBC investigative piece reveals that over 25% of 16-24 year olds in the UK believe this guff because they receive their “news and information” solely from social media.

jcyclops · 26/08/2020 21:37

5G and Bill Gates are nothing to worry about, but just wait until 7G rolls out and Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor is running the merged Google/Apple/Microsoft and renames it Skynet.

I wondered about this too. Care homes historically have had trouble filling vacancies and so wouldn't necessarily be in a position to insist, but maybe this will change as the economy goes further down the shitter.
OoohTheStatsDontLie · 26/08/2020 21:46

Vaccines for much worse diseases aren't compulsory so why would they make a vaccine compulsory for a disease that doesnt badly affect most people? I don't know why you even need to ask, the minute he started talking about Bill Gates and 5G he'd have lost me

EasterIssland · 26/08/2020 22:03

Doubt general citizens will have access to it for a few years. First vulnerable and nhs people will have it most likely so it won’t be that easy to get access it. You might be able to have it privately done but again I think it’ll be difficult to access it. I can see loads of people will pay for it because they’re scared of the virus so just in case.

So I’d say til 2022-2023 it will not that be easy. However , if we get the most vulnerable people vaccined then the chances of the virus being deadly will be quite reduced. Same thing that happens with the flu vaccine that mainly vulnerable people get it done and the rest of the population doesn’t.

I’ll def not get it done for a while. Tho I love to travel so would consider it depending on the countries requirements(or employment )

hibbledobble · 26/08/2020 22:05

Yabu, as none of what is described above will mean it is compulsory.

It's possible that having a vaccine will become a requirement for certain activities, eg foreign travel, but people can simply choose not to do these activities.

Don't forget that there are those who are unable to have certain vaccines, due to medical reasons.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 26/08/2020 22:06

Makes me so angry that social media demonises BIll Gates- his and his wife’s foundation has done amazing work. Ya brothers a twat - sorry!

GlitteryKnickersAndBra14 · 26/08/2020 22:22

Its interesting that all of you commenting seem so certain that the OPs brother is "mad" or even more disrespectful, a "twat" ... dont any of you ever question what you are told? I dont 100% believe anything that I'm told. The media is very corrupt and biased. There is absolutely nothing wrong with questioning what is going on around you.. it shows an inquisitive and usually intelligent mind

Starbuggy · 26/08/2020 22:24

I can’t take conspiracy theorists seriously at all, and there’s no point arguing with crazy.

Of course vaccines won’t be compulsory, just like every other vaccine isn’t compulsory. But as PP said there may be things you can’t do if you’re not vaccinated such as travel to certain countries.

TheGoogleMum · 26/08/2020 22:36

No health care is compulsory. If you have a perfectly treatable cancer you can choose to refuse all treatment. You can choose to refuse vaccines it would be unethical to force it. If they choose to restrict travel over it that isn't forcing at all just making people consider the consequences of their actions

mastertomsmum · 26/08/2020 22:40

I doubt they will become compulsory but when we lived in the US there was a whole list of vaccines that a child must have had to be permitted to attend an educational setting in NYC. This covered state and independent schools and nurseries

Gancanny · 26/08/2020 22:54

Believing that 5G is the cause of Covid-19 and that Bill Gates is secretly planning to microchip us all via mass vaccination is not the hallmark of an inquisitive and intelligent mind. It is the hallmark of someone who had a big old helping of Cuckoo Flakes for breakfast.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 26/08/2020 23:01

It would be a pretty harsh state to force vaccinations- and unenforcable in practice- do you pin someone to a bed and strap them in while gagged and police in attandance?

As has already been suggested, they won't (in the UK, at least) force you to have the vaccine, but there will be so many basic needs and services that you aren't allowed to access without having had it that the effect will be pretty much the same.

Like with petrol and diesel cars, I don't think they'll actually ban them outright when they expect everybody to switch to electric: they'll just slap a £50 per litre tax on fossil fuels so that you effectively opt for Hobson's choice 'all of your own free will'. Same with smart meters - they'll probably never be compulsory, as long as you're happy to pay ten times the SM rates.

I completely agree with GlitteryKnickersAndBra14 - just because there are a load of wacky and ridiculous conspiracy theories going around, that doesn't mean that nothing that we're told by the authorities and the rich people who run the world is ever a lie or half-truth with underhand or even evil motives. So many people are quick to mock any belief or theory that doesn't follow the official line 100%, but if you asked them about David Kelly and Robin Cook's deaths and Blair's true intentions with taking us into war, many of them will step back and wonder if, just maybe, we haven't been told the entire truth.

Racoonworld · 26/08/2020 23:07

Not compulsory but will have to have it for travel, some jobs if employers require it. So for people wanting to do those things it will be compulsory.

tornadoalley · 27/08/2020 10:39

He's mad. You can't be forced to have a vaccine. It would be assault

lovelifehope · 27/08/2020 10:42

I agree, I don’t think they will become compulsory. However our lives will be so restricted WITHOUT the vaccine that effectively we will be forced into having it. But if the vaccine is effective and there’s no long term side affects then obviously it’s got to be a good thing.
