To think I've got away with not getting a fine?

We travelled over the dartford bridge 10 days ago and forgot to pay the toll. We normally always do it the day before we travel for both ways and the website was down. When we arrived on holiday we completely forgot until the day before we were due to travel home. We paid for the trip home on the website.
I've not received a letter in the post yet to say we didn't pay on the way out and to notify of a fine. I'm really worried.
Aibu to think we won't get one as it was 10 days ago?
Has anyone received a fine for this and if so what was the timescale of you finding out?

I'm not sure really ; you paid going back so maybe they assumed you paid going over it? They might still write to you.

FAQs · 26/08/2020 16:55

They have 14 days to write to you but if it’s your first offence they usually include in the letter a link to pay the original fee rather than a fine, it comes with a warning that you car will be registered and any further offences are subject to a fine.

They did with me anyway.

Presuming your car is registered to your address.

Thanks FAQs
I've never done it before, I've always paid before we travel.
My car is definitely registered to me at my address as I only bought it a few months ago and the logbook was definitely sent here

I got one recently as I had forgotten to put our new car on our DART account.

We drove over on 9th August, I got the penalty notice on 18th or 19th.

£35, doubled to £70 if not paid in 14 days.

However, when I contacted them to pay, they just charged me the £2.50. They said because it was my ‘first offence’ I didn’t have to pay.

If you go over often it’s worth setting up an account so you don’t have to think about it.

Oh and also on another occasion! I paid about two weeks later, received the fine, facebooked them to explain I’d gone on holiday and couldn’t access the website, which was true and had paid as soon as I could, they checked I’d made a random payment, lined it up to the date and cancelled the fine, I’d forgotten about that, they were really helpful.

Although if the website was down that is also your argument against the fine.

*paid before the fine letter.

Pinkflipflop85 · 26/08/2020 17:05

My fine took ages to come through.

Been done on Runcorn bridge numerous times! Every time I go over I tell myself I must remember to pay then by the time I get to destination it completely slips from my mind! We usually get the letter about 2 weeks after.

VoldemortsKitten · 26/08/2020 17:44

i think you'll be ok TeaandBrie - i did exactly the same thing. it took 14 days to get a letter, but i only had to pay £2.50 as a first offence :) i have an autopay set up now!

Sparklesocks · 26/08/2020 17:55

This happened to me and I was sweating waiting for a letter, but I went back through my DART payment emails and it turns out a few months before I’d paid £5 instead of £2.50 for one journey. Normally on that particular drive I do it the dart charge on both legs but I’d taken a different route home. My brain went into autopilot during payment though so I had £2.50 credit which was applied the next time I went over. Any chance something similar happened to you?

Thank you for your comments, it's definitely helped me not feel so worried!
I also feel happier knowing it's not just me that has forgotten to pay it Grin, I don't feel so daft now!

My hubby forgot to pay going out one year and as it was his first offence, he didn't have to pay anything. So you should be okay. Fingers Crossed

MoiraRosesTransAtlanticDrawl · 27/08/2020 01:25

Did you cross over before 6am?

TeaAndBrie · 27/08/2020 17:59

I got my letter today! I called up and was able to just pay £2.50.
I can stop stressing now!
