I wasn't allowed in the shop

Should I complain about this or just let it go?

I wanted to go into a shop today with my ds who is 3. The shop is within a shopping center which has a lift and escalators. The escalator leads directly into the shop but before Covid you could also use the lift to enter from the first floor.

I cannot use an escalator as they make me go dizzy and I would need to carry ds. It just wouldn't have been safe for me so we took the lift.

When we got to the top the lady at the door said this is exit only. I needed to go in from the escalator at the bottom. I said I couldn't use the escalator for health reasons. She then went on to ask me what health reasons. I then had to explain to her and she said she will check with her manager if I can go in Hmm it was a big exit and no one was even coming out at the time.
She radioed over to them and said I have a lady and child here who don't want to use the escalator can they come in through the exit?
I didn't hear the reply but she then gestured for me to enter.

It made me annoyed probably more than it should have. Would you complain or just leave it at that as after all I did get to go in the shop?

'Comments from ddl1 and dwiz8 (and many others) are so ableist it just conveys their ignorance.'

Excuse me! I was quoting the ableist comments in order to oppose them! I wasn't the one who made them in the first place!!!

lovelymm · 26/08/2020 18:51

You sound ridiculous and hugely overreacted.

Cohenlover · 26/08/2020 18:53

I do apologise ddl1 !! Must be my MS brain fog.

vodkaredbullgirl · 26/08/2020 18:55

Biscuit nothing to add

islockdownoveryet · 26/08/2020 18:55

I just wasted 3 seconds reading the op.
I wasn't allowed in shop further down yes I was .
that's like someone saying they weren't allowed in bar until they showed ID then they were because they showed said ID .
It's a none event and how would you ? complain she let you in.
Honestly some people are such snowflakes they are offended at everything,Hmm

Cohenlover · 26/08/2020 18:55

Honestly really sorry ddl1. !! I just can't believe the pile on the OP is getting.

ivfdreaming · 26/08/2020 18:57

This is a non story. You sound hard work and somewhat of a drama queen to be honest - light headed in an escalator 🤷‍♀️

ddl1 · 26/08/2020 18:57

'I do apologise ddl1 !! Must be my MS brain fog.'

Not to worry - and thanks for opposing the more contemptuous attitudes!

All the best!

YABU

FuckwitMcGee · 26/08/2020 18:59

No issue, you're moaning for no reason.

CarrotCakeCrumbs · 26/08/2020 18:59

@Cohenlover well actually I DO know people who brush off what seem like quite minor symptoms and therefore don't get things checked and later find out that they have quite serious problems. As I stated in my 2nd comment I wasn't trying to be horrible to the OP in any way, I simply know too many people who left things too late before getting them seen to.

Cohenlover · 26/08/2020 19:01

Thanks ddl1. I need to get off this thread. It's not doing my hopeful recovery any good!

BritWifeinUSA · 26/08/2020 19:02

Is this the worst thing that has happened to you this month? If so, you’re doing better than many.

Laptray · 26/08/2020 19:02

Pages on pages of people laying into the OP. Some of these are so smug and sneering, it's unbelievable. Oh how clever and impressive are some of you, with your pathetic little posts lambasting the OP?

islockdownoveryet · 26/08/2020 19:05

Not when they have a F-g disability you idiot.
Who are you calling the idiot ?
It's f all to do with disability she got in the bloody shop .
If it was she didn't get in the the shop then I'd be well supportive of the op .
So stop with the name calling I'm not idiot saying I wasn't allowed in then I was just because the staff member asked a question.
I've a dc who's disabled and is exempt from things but I'm perfectly happy to explain to staff members if necessary because they are not trained in knowing every disability.

Bluntness100 · 26/08/2020 19:06

Op there is Pandemic going on. It’s a virus called Covid 19 or corona virus, Shops are required to maintain seperate exits and entrances to reduce the risk to people. As such, when someone uses the wrong one, they have to be sure it’s not just some one who wishes to use it.

It must be very difficult for you to have a condition that makes using escalators potentially fatal, but the woman was not to know that, she was doing her job and the shop complying with the guidelines.

I think you should try to be kind and understand that they both met your needs whilst trying to comply with the government requirements and reduce the risk of the virus for everyone. I’m sure you know they can’t just let folks use the elevator whenever they fancy.

islockdownoveryet · 26/08/2020 19:06

That's to you @Cohenlover

Cohenlover · 26/08/2020 19:06

C8H10N4O2 Totally agree with you. But the term is ableism (that such posters are displaying) rather than disablism.

SuckingDownDarjeeling · 26/08/2020 19:09

I really need to ask @ILikeGlitter , when the lady radioed you ask if you could go in, did she give a description of your health condition over the radio?

Jojobythesea · 26/08/2020 19:10

@ILikeGlitter

I came on here to ask if I was being unreasonable. I obviously am. I am not here to argue with strangers on the internet.

#be kind Smile

Be kind to shop workers that are just doing their job 🤷🏻‍♀️
Cohenlover · 26/08/2020 19:16

islockdownoveryet No should not have used an offensive term towards
you. But if the OP has a condition that could be potentially fatal, then she should be allowed to use the lift rather than the escalator, just as I with MS should be allowed to (If I could actually walk at the moment).
I just don't understand why so many posters have tried to denigrate and humiliate the OP.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 26/08/2020 19:18

She was allowed though. That's what people are saying. It's a non issue. She was allowed to use the exit as an entry
KarmaStar · 26/08/2020 19:22

Yabu .drop the self importance and be glad they are being vigilante.

Cohenlover · 26/08/2020 19:25

SchrodingersImmigrant So if that's what you feel why not just say that, rather than all the vitriolic comments displayed by so many posters.
