To ask you to choose my guest bedroom

We’re moving into a new house, not had a guest bedroom before so not sure not which is better. The two room options are

4 x 2m (Long rectangle, double bed is width of the room)

2.5 x 2.3 (square like)

The other room will be used as an office/room for my home working (a desk is all that is required) and it will also be used for the housecats (think cat cafe!).

Which would you choose for what? Disclaimer: I realise this is a minor ‘problem’, just looking for insight.

You need to consider what other furniture you want in your guest room before making a decision - size of bed, wardrobe, dressing table, etc. Also will your office be used every day or occasionally. If everyday, then I would consider how that room makes me feel, natural lighting, view from the window, etc.

I would prioritise your office over the spare room. So whichever room has the best/light/temperature/soundproofing etc you should have as your office

Nosuchluck · 26/08/2020 14:22

I’d also decide which room you’d prefer as an office and use be other one as a guest bedroom.

Very good points I’d not thought of, thank you! I think I’ve been fixated on the dimensions like it should be an obvious choice that I was missing. Will probably have to live in it first then for a while before committing as I’m not sure about lighting etc.

I'd have the square room as a guest room as the bed could be away from the wall (not much else would get in there, mind!).

TheWernethWife · 26/08/2020 14:32

Why not get a day bed, that way it wouldn't take up much room.

What a nice problem to have! Where are the windows and which way do they face would be how I’d decide - we have a bedroom facing NE and a study facing SW and we should have done it the other way round as the study gets too hot in the day.
