To expect In-laws to remember how old their first born grandchild is?

She's 12 today. So she's just opened a present from nanny & grandad and it's a mug which says 'Worlds Greatest Teenager' on it! Still, at least they addressed the envelope with the right name. Last year I had a birthday card from them in my maiden name - I've had the same name as them for 16 years!

Happy Birthday to your dd They are being ignorant, have they always been like this?

The list of their oddities goes on and on, I don't know why I'm suprised really.

If its any consolation, I got a 21st birthday card on my 20th birthday from my biological father!

mrspnut · 05/10/2007 09:32

My dad has to ask us all how old we are - he's never managed to get it right and we're all in our 20's and 30's now.

Maybe they thought 12 was teenage age?

zubb · 05/10/2007 11:19

I can never remember how old my nieces and nephews are, and my Dad can't remember how old I am let along my kids.
I don't think it's that unusual really -although I do avoid sending age cards because of it!

my dad stillcant even remember the MONTH i was born, let alone the date....but hes a man....single too so no women to rmind him of such important things! would have thought grandparents would know better tho?

bookwormmum · 05/10/2007 11:35

My Dad would sometimes be hard pushed to remember our names (I'm one of four) - and he chose two of them - let alone our birthdays or years we were born in .

I think he's more genned up with his GDs though. Grand-children are different aren't they?

maisemor · 05/10/2007 13:43

It is a good thing though that they actually sent her a present and a card!!?

My children get a small sum of money transferred to their savings account and an email saying "Happy birthday, Grandad & Nana P.S. money has been put into your account".

maisemor....this is what my sister told me the other day...that for her lo 1st bday some money was put into her trust fund account. my sister was really annoyed that they didnt get her a gift she could actually play with....theres soooo much you can buy a one yr old that they would love....why not give them a fun gift?

Well mo, my MIL sent DS a card with the number 5 stuck all over it... last week ....when he was 6!!! But she is old and crackers and means well so it's different - she's not thoughtless and ignorant like your lot.

I am still recovering from your wedding fiasco and that was 17 years ago (and I don't mean the fact that I drank the bar dry "hic" - I mean your outlaws' behaviour!).

Photo is lovely, who are those grown up girls?
