To think this could be a false positive?

Took a pregnancy test first thing this morning and got a positive result. I've since done two more that were definitely negative. If I'm pregnant I'm about 4.5 weeks and in the past I've had consistent positives at this stage. I read that protein from UTIs can cause a false positive and I did have a slightly stingy wee yesterday so I'm wondering if this is it? Has anyone else had a false positive? I feel like I'm faking being pregnant. Obviously will test tomorrow morning again but it's dominating my thoughts right now so needed to ask!

You don’t get false positives as it were (only in IVF pregnancies) so not sure what’s going- could have been an evaporation line rather than a positive. Try the pink dye tests as most reliable. Good luck op.

PinkiOcelot · 25/08/2020 16:11

I thought you could only get false negatives?

Freddiefox · 25/08/2020 16:12

You can get false positives from ovarian cysts, during some points in your cycle. Although false positives are very very rare.

cannotbebotheredanymore · 25/08/2020 16:13

I had seven false positives just a couple of weeks ago. SEVEN. Took a blood test and def not pregnant.

BaconsLaw · 25/08/2020 16:13

There's a reason they say to test with the first pee of the morning.

Congratulations!

GrimDamnFanjo · 25/08/2020 16:13

And hcg is always strongest in the first wee of the day.

mayandjuniper · 25/08/2020 16:46

Wasn't a faint line which makes it more weird.

Wow, seven is mental cannotbe, what was the reason?

It's not brilliant news really if it's positive so want to know asap either way.

Your morning wee would have had stronger hormones, it’s extremely rare to get false positives

User0ne · 25/08/2020 18:03

Is your period late? It could be an early miscarriage. Your hormones can change before bleeding starts.

mayandjuniper · 25/08/2020 19:11

I'm a bit unsure on my cycle but my period is either a few days late or due right now (ish).

Can you post a pic?

Waveysnail · 25/08/2020 19:33

Only test with first urine of the morning.

That does look like a strong positive.

Were the subsequent tests done with different urine samples later in the morning? If so that may be why the other tests came up negative, as the more dilute your urine is, the less hormone is present.

Either way, I would try again tomorrow with your first urine to be sure.

I'm sorry if it's not the news you were hoping for Flowers

Freddiefox · 25/08/2020 19:59

That’s not really what I would call faint... sorry xx

Spanglybangles · 25/08/2020 20:02

That’s what I’d call a strong positive OP. Try again tomorrow with first pee of the day.

Hardbackwriter · 25/08/2020 20:02

Did you use that same brand for all three tests? I found that they're not as sensitive as they claim early on, so that looks like a definite positive (sorry) but I can easily believe you got what looked like negatives with even slightly more dilute urine. Sorry that that isn't the news you wanted.

mayandjuniper · 25/08/2020 20:26

Yeah same brand- got a multipack from Amazon like 6 months ago, so now I'm wondering if they're fake tests or something.

Thirdlifecrisis · 25/08/2020 21:04

Sorry this isn't what you're hoping OP but I have the same tests off Amazon and my positive at 4-5 weeks with this pregnancy was much weaker than that. If I were you I'd nip out for a different test and test in a couple of days first thing in the morning. I hope it works out for you!

mayandjuniper · 25/08/2020 23:26

IDK if this was a false positive but I'm either miscarrying or having a very bad period as of an hour ago so guess it's moot anyway. Thanks for all the responses and letting me sound out.
