Help! Pissy carpet!

Someone, probably the cat Angry I can’t imagine the dog doing it, has peed on my stair carpet...
I assume during the night as the floor/carpet is dry.

The smell is so bad!
I have vacuumed and washed the carpet and floor in a mix of hot water, biological washing powder and zoflora and vacuumed again once dry but I can still smell it!

Is there anything I can do to get the smell out?!
I sent DH out for bicarbonate of soda but the shop is sold out 😭

Does it actually still smell or are you just convinced it stinks? Go out for a bit and come back in if you haven’t already.

Otherwise I’d recommend bicarbonate and vinegar but since your shop is out I’d just repeat what you’ve already done!

Furry wee thugs

what colour is your carpet. I always used neutradol powder on carpets. My friend used bicarb on her stair carpet and it bleached it.

Not sure, I can’t smell it at the minute, maybe I’ve got used to it and gone temporarily noseblind

Good idea, will do this

what colour is your carpet
Shitty dirty beige colour.
I hate it, id like a nice crisp white one in the future

Maybe use this as your excuse to get that white carpet??

Gobbycop · 25/08/2020 15:06

Dr Beckmann carpet cleaner.

BabyMoonPie · 25/08/2020 15:11

There are specific pet urine smell remover sprays you can get. We bought it from the supermarket for when our old girl didn't stay in the litter tray

Notjustabrunette · 25/08/2020 15:14

Vinegar and bicarbonate of soda, but your carpet will smell of vinegar. Which is better then wee.
If the wee went into the underlay though you might not get the smell out of it. You might need to lift the carpet, check the underlay and replace.

Do you have any cleaning products with BIO in the brand name?
We have BIO ZET here. It neutralises the enzymes.

Norabird · 25/08/2020 15:22

1:10 solution of biological washing liquid, rinse thoroughly. Then spray with surgical spirit.

"Simple solution" available from Amazon and Pets at Home.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 25/08/2020 15:32

Simple solution is the best. Trust me, i've tried em all.... Plus get yourself a blacklight as it will show you if there is anything still there.

LouiseTrees · 25/08/2020 15:50

Vanish carpet cleaner.

Delbelleber · 25/08/2020 15:55

I have the same problem! I have cleaned it with my vax carpet cleaner 3 times but the stench comes back once the carpet has dried 😭

CorvusPurpureus · 25/08/2020 19:01

Depends if it's repeated. My then 4yo dd2 went through a phase of quietly peeing in a corner of her room (LONG story) & by the time I knew about it, it was through to the floorboards. I replaced the carpet & nuked the boards with everything I could imagine, but the ghost of pisses past was not to be exorcised.

If you like the carpet enough to try & save it, I'd try again with the bio washing powder. Then put something - anything! an old tea crate from the garage - on the space because you might not be smelling it, but your pet still will & think it's The Place To Piddle if you don't block off that option. Same if you replace the carpet, tbh - & check cat has ample litter provision somewhere not too far away.

I recently had a similar problem and the only thing that got rid of the shell was “OUT” urine destroyer or something similar. It worked really well, but I had to pull up the carpet and soak the underlay in it too. Can you do that with your stair carpet?

FenellaVelour · 25/08/2020 19:07

My cat pissed on my sofa recently and I thought it was doomed, but Simple Solution sorted it out.

TaxTheRatFarms · 25/08/2020 19:07

*smell! He does not wee out shells. Hmm

AwkwardPaws27 · 25/08/2020 19:11

I had this on a rug recently; bicarb (left on overnight) helped a lot, but shake n vac (lily of the valley scented) got rid of the last of the whiff.

Roselilly36 · 25/08/2020 19:26

@Norabird has it right, if it is cats pee, surgical spirit is the way to go, it will deter your cat from peeing there again, some other cleaning fluids can attract your cat to pee in the same spot again, as they can give off a scent that makes a cat think another cat has also peed there, then your cat will mark it again. Is your cat ok, one of mine peed when she had UTI.

ChickensMightFly · 25/08/2020 20:13

Pets at home sell am enzyme spray that gets rid of the element that makes other animals want to cover the smell/ repeat the incident. Can't remember it's name but it's well known by the staff. Grin
