I love the idea of a bat with more legs Grin I may share that with my DS who hates spiders but loves bats.

FairNotFair · 25/08/2020 12:52

Well, I just went online to search up spider repellant sprays. Unfortunately I can't read all the information because THEY KEEP PUTTING PICTURES OF BLOODY SPIDERS ALL OVER THEM Hmm Angry

peakygal · 25/08/2020 12:52

Im not terrified of spiders but when they are nearly as big as your head thats when the problem comes in 😂

recklessruby · 25/08/2020 12:55

My mother has always been terrified of spiders. They have never bothered me so if my father was out I was always the spider catcher.
Ds is like me and fine with all creatures but dd is like my mum. Petrified of them so I am still the spider catcher!
I dont think it will affect your ds. I ve always known my mum was scared of them and I never have been.

Deathraystare · 25/08/2020 12:57

One of my friend's has a real phobia, so much she ran into the street and asked a passing man to deal with it!! She is in her 70's!!.

AryaStarkWolf · 25/08/2020 13:02

hahaha, that would be me everytime

Aragog · 25/08/2020 13:05

A bat with more legs

I think that would probably scare me more - a spider which can also fly towards me!

Aragog · 25/08/2020 13:06

We have cans of Spider X spray all over the house. DD is off to university next month and I have cans of it for her to take when she goes.

Yes, I am the bad mum who's fear of spiders was passed down to her child. Not much I can do about that now though.

AriesTheRam · 25/08/2020 13:12

nevertrustaherdofcows · 25/08/2020 13:22

I have always been a complete wuss with spiders. DD is worse.

DS, however, since the age of about 10 has been perfectly happy to pick them up and wander off into the garden with them. Size not an issue.

LassoOfTruth · 25/08/2020 13:22

Going to bed last night I turned to go into the bathroom only to come eyeball-to-eyeball with a really sinister looking fecker which was dangling from its web above. Baby was sleeping so I swallowed my screams and did the whole cup/postcard trick. Later, c. 2am, I was feeding baby in bed when one landed on my hand from above. Flicked it away, screaming, obvs. DH not thrilled that I got him up to look for it. It had scuttled off somewhere though. Not a great night’s sleep! Hate them

AriesTheRam · 25/08/2020 13:23

Well its time to burn the house down.Baby one appeared on sofa which means parents right?

I'm not really afraid of spiders and catch them no problem in front of my DD (5), yet she is terrified of them. Which I think shows you're either scared of them or you're not, your reaction won't make any difference. This is purely anecdotal evidence of course!

Therarestone · 25/08/2020 13:32

You're human, your son is allowed to see that Flowers be kinder to yourself, we all have phobias.

bendmeoverbackwards · 25/08/2020 13:33

I hate the huge fuckers and hate this time of year. I've got a spray which I've used liberally around the doors etc and also a plug in anti pest device. Interesting about the orange oil. But what can you do on carpeted floors?

unicornpower · 25/08/2020 13:38

I am absolutely terrified of snakes, Like PP I cant watch them on tv or news articles and fainted in a reptile house once through fear! I often have nightmares about them and wake up with my skin crawling, yuk! I took my nephew to the zoo with his mum once and he really wanted to go in the reptile house with me and i felt awful because i really couldn't do it! His mum made an excuse that i wasn't feeling well and took him in so he didn't realise i was so scared of them.

I'm dreading having children who want a pet snake or something! i would have to leave home

bookmum08 · 25/08/2020 13:51

unicornpower my daughter winds me up by saying she will get a pet snake when she is older. I say "fine but then you will have no mother" 😂

fsklgf · 25/08/2020 13:57

its ok mum just pretend its a bat with more legs

Hahaha! I'm gonna have to try that next time.

By which I mean, I'm gonna try saying it to DH while he's trying to get the spider, lol

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 25/08/2020 13:57

I’m another one who’s terrified of snakes. My children know this and have seen me scream when we had one in the garden. They find it amusing and DS (12) once brought a baby grass snake into the kitchen to frighten me! They don't have any problems with them.

It won’t scar your son, just shows you’re human...just wait until your son is a preteen, he’ll probably get some plastic insects to frighten you.🤣

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 25/08/2020 13:58

Oh, they’ve also put a toy snake in my bed!

gumball37 · 25/08/2020 14:21

I don't like bugs... Or spiders... But I'm like a fucking superhero when my kids are around... I'll be like "oh it's just a no big deal" while inside I'm like "aaahhhh noooo" haha

Everysinglebloodytime · 25/08/2020 14:26

Spiders get rid of the other creepy crawlies, they do a useful job.

I used to be scared of them but decided not to be when we had kids, so forced myself to look at pictures of them and talk to the kids about what was interesting about them, then little ones in the garden, then gradually bigger and bigger till I held a tarantula, who was beautiful and soft and gentle, like a chilled out tiny kitten with no scratching.

You can get over it if you want to but if you don't, that's your choice.

Whenwillow · 25/08/2020 14:26

Your son sounds wonderful and you did a great job swallowing your fear and dealing with it anyway. A great lesson I think.
