For me it's lorries in the middle lane on motorways, driving parallel to another. Yes I know they have deadlines, but miles and miles side by side? 😡

I have to admit I judge cyclists by their appearance.

Judge away, but please don’t let it affect the standard of your driving.

As I don’t wear a helmet or fluorescent clothes (but do use earphones), doubtless I reduce some motorists to paroxysms of rage wherever I go.

goldenshoe · 25/08/2020 12:53

Not indicating. This annoys me as a driver and a pedestrian.
Sticking to 40 miles an hour regardless of the speed limit.
Going reaaallllyyyy sllloooowwwly around the slightest bend on a single lane road and them bombing down the straights so I can't over take (usually 4x4 drivers).
Not respecting cyclists.
Cyclists with no lights at night.
Middle lane hoggers.
So many!!!

Manolin · 25/08/2020 13:06

Tolls over bridges. Trolls under bridges. Trolls under bridges that eat billy goats gruff.

Athers666 · 25/08/2020 13:12

People who are going right at a roundabout with a right signal on but don't change to a left signal when exiting. Hardly anybody seems to bother, it's so annoying!
People who are incapable of reversing into their drives and then stop traffic by reversing off in the mornings because they don't bother to look properly. Or those with a huge drive with plently of room to turn their car around that still reverse out! Why are so many people so terrified of reverse parking?!

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 25/08/2020 13:14

No, I hate them because they’re assumed to be innocent in a collision. Every time I overtake a cyclist I risk my future, because all they have to do is veer in front of me and Boom! I’m facing a prison sentence.

Not if you give them enough room. And if you can't overtake safely, then don't overtake.

tiredanddangerous · 25/08/2020 13:15

People who don't know how to indicate on roundabouts looking at you DH. So many people seem to think you don't indicate when going straight over a roundabout. A fair amount don't do it when going left or right either, to be fair.

People failing to observe hatched areas and blocking everyone else.

People who can't manage slip roads on motorways. I got stuck in a queue to get on the M42 a few years back because someone had stopped at the end of the slip road. I don't know whether it was their fault or vehicles on the motorway failing to move over. The police had to come and sort it out in the end Confused

Iverunoutofnames · 25/08/2020 13:16

People with massive cars who don’t understand a tiny car with a tiny engine cannot get up to speed as quickly. Sitting up my arse won’t fix this.

motleymop · 25/08/2020 13:18

People who don't know you canstopin ayellow boxjunction whenturning rightif you are prevented fromturningby oncoming traffic, or by other vehicles waiting toturn right. So they just sit outside of the box at lights and no one can get past.

BoingBoingyBoing · 25/08/2020 13:34

"No, I hate them because they’re assumed to be innocent in a collision."

Not in the UK they aren't, and you misunderstand how it works in other countries anyway.

ummnamechange · 25/08/2020 14:02

so... this is a 5 minute clip from a Canadian vlog - Fortnine.

Aimed at motrcyclists - but fascinating to watch as its all about vision, how we miss things and why so many accidents happen close to home. Cant verify its scientific credentials but it is also quite funny

malificent7 · 25/08/2020 14:07

Going at maximum speed limit...car behind tailgates then overtakes...ovet speed limit...it's one rule for us and another for them.
Why do they never get caught either?!

malificent7 · 25/08/2020 14:08

Over

Chickpeabiryani · 25/08/2020 14:10

People who dawdle along at 30mph on a slip road to join a 70mph motorway.

I seem to get stuck behind people like this often, I don’t think people realise how dangerous it is to join a motorway at such low speed.

^This ^ . Does my head in, especially on a short slip road. One near me where it happens all the time - it’s like they think it’s a normal junction and you’re just turning left. Madness.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 25/08/2020 14:16

People who can't understand Merge In Turn lanes and junctions.

People who drive a car and don't respect other vulnerable road users.

Elai1978 · 25/08/2020 14:24

My daughter has a Peugeot with the same 998cc engine and that thing bloody flies away. Runs out of steam about 80, though but nippy as hell until then.

They’re so slow they border on being dangerous. I can only assume you’ve never been in anything nippy let alone actually quick. There’s not much out there slower this side of a commercial vehicle.

DdraigGoch · 25/08/2020 14:39

@greenforme

It makes perfect sense to me.

I doubt they'll let me off toad tax because I pay council tax.

They'll let you off it if your car is zero emissions though. VED is a tax on polluting vehicles.
DdraigGoch · 25/08/2020 14:42

@DadDadDad

VED is a tax on emissions. Not on road usage.

But that's just how the government choose to present it. If you take your vehicle off the road, you don't pay it. You can drive a big polluting vehicle on your private land and not pay any VED. I drive a car that emits but it's small enough that my VED is zero, so no tax on my emissions.

It's the admission price for taking a motor vehicle on the public road. Of course, the tariff is based on potential to emit, but I think you are just making too dogmatic a distinction.

So you're saying that you don't actually pay "Road Tax" yourself?
DadDadDad · 25/08/2020 15:53

@DdraigGoch - I own two cars, so in fact I do pay "vehicle tax", to give it the name that gov.uk seems to be happy to call it.

DdraigGoch · 25/08/2020 17:56

So you drive one vehicle on a public road which isn't liable for VED, and another vehicle which is.

Pretty sure that most cyclists come under that category. Still if you want all cyclists to pay "Road Tax" then you can lead the way with a few voluntary contributions to HM Treasury to cover your zero-VED car.

Vinorosso74 · 25/08/2020 18:07

Tailgaters. I had someone ridiculously close to me on the M1 last week when it was wet with awful visibility so can only assume they were following my rear lights! People who cut in closely in front of you for no reason causing you to brake/slow down.
Those that don't join the queue of traffic but expect to barge over at the last minute. Apparently their journey is more important than everyone else's.

DadDadDad · 25/08/2020 19:03

@DdraigGoch - I've never once argued on this thread that cyclists should pay any kind of road tax, and I don't believe they should!! I seem to have been imputed to that argument simply because I expressed a relaxed attitude about calling it road tax, vehicle tax, or tax disc.

I simply think people who think they are clever pointing out how "road tax" was abolished in 1937 and the correct term is Vehicle Excise Duty are just being picky - it is a tax that some road-users have to pay. Whatever you call it, I think it serves a purpose and the idea of charging bigger emitters more is a good one.

PaddyF0dder · 25/08/2020 19:08

@greenforme

THERE. IS. NO. SUCH. THING. AS. ROAD. TAX.

PaddyF0dder · 25/08/2020 19:10

@wejustdisagree

That’s rather silly behaviour.

I drive. I cycle. In both situations I take responsibility for my own safety.

Robbing yourself of one of your senses while driving is just irresponsible.

greenforme · 25/08/2020 19:20

Call it what you like but it's tax to use the roads.
Drink alcohol.... pay tax
Smoke...pay tax
Buy a house... pay tax
Use the road... pay tax.

Frankly the government can dress it up how it likes re omissions etc. It's a charge to use the roads.

@Elai1978,

'My daughter has a Peugeot with the same 998cc engine and that thing bloody flies away. Runs out of steam about 80, though but nippy as hell until then.

What utter rubbish. Her car it is very quick away from a standstill (traffic lights etc). I'll agree it runs out of steam (which I stated)but can top 100 (with a long run up Grin) But then you compare their speed to a commercial vehicle. If you are going to spout shit then at least make it partially sensible. Utter drivel.

And they are the safe safety level as a VW Up, etc. They are small cars and usually small cars don't have the same NCAP as tanks like Mercedes etc.

And finally my cars are generally what some would call on the very quick side but we're not talking about that...well, I'm not but you seem to think you know what I drive.
