Just interested in other responses. At the moment I don't know if I'm giving myself too much/too little to spend on myself each week so want to see what others say..

out...I promise I know how to spell
m1ssB · 24/08/2020 17:09

@Leaannb Wow I'd love that much! Do you tend to spend it all or always have some left at the end of the week?

As per the username, we are finally fluid, so don't set any limit, but years of being broke means that we don't cane it. My yardstick is if this pushed into over draft would I buy it, if the answer is no, then I don't need it.

Lockdownseperation · 24/08/2020 17:12

£50 a week.

It all depends on your personal circumstances.

It really depends on if a new Lego has been released or if one of my favorite authors have released a book and how much I'm in the office or out on the road.

Very rarely do I not find a lego set I want or books that I want

OnceUponALorry · 24/08/2020 17:15

I don't have a set amount. One month it maybe very little. Next month it might be £500.

Surly it depend? I mean you don't just go and spend money just because you have it allocated.

m1ssB · 24/08/2020 17:16

@Lockdownseperation Mine isn't much more than that. Do you manage ok with that amount? I find that I struggle and end up having no money come the end of the week but I am trying to cut down on takeaways etc so hoping it goes further.

FizzyPink · 24/08/2020 17:17

I have £474 a month to spend on myself after all bills/food shopping/phone have been accounted for plus £1,000 into our savings pot to buy a house next year.

I cannot wait to have that £1,000 a month back to spend on lovely things again.

WhatWouldPennyDo · 24/08/2020 17:17

Lots, but I am fortunate that we both earn very well (which I recognise makes me even luckier in the current climate).

Bills, savings/ investments and ‘future proofing’ get paid first and then what’s left is disposable. Sometimes we spend it, sometimes we don’t, but I don’t break it down into a weekly amount. That in itself makes me feel fortunate, having been in a position before when I knew to the nearest penny just how little money I had.

dwiz8 · 24/08/2020 17:17

Varies but usually about £350-£500 a week

The lower months are usually the month either side of a holiday so I can save more for spending etc.

nokidshere · 24/08/2020 17:17

We don't allocate 'spends'. All money goes into one account, bills are paid, what's left is for use. Sometimes I spend 0 a week and sometimes 100s

MeanMrMustardSeed · 24/08/2020 17:18

Either this is total BS, or it’s so off the scale of normality that it’s totally unhelpful. It’s hard to tell on MN! Grin

We don’t have a limit, but in terms of what we spend on ourselves it probably works out at less than £10 a week. There are enough household and DC expenses to cover first and personal spends is not high on our priorities at the moment (young family, one income!). I would have thought £30 would be reasonable in an average household but would depend on so many things!

MaskingForIt · 24/08/2020 17:20

Not including food and bills, but including fuel for my car, about £120 a week. I generally only spend around £30-40 of that though, and at the end of the month everything left goes into my private pension.

I have cheap hobbies and take aways make me fat, so there isn’t a lot to spend it on other than maybe a book, some craft supplies, and maybe one tank of fuel a month.

ChocolateChipMuffin2016 · 24/08/2020 17:21

Bloody hell! Everyone seems to be doing amazing on here!!! Money I actually get to spend on myself is probably about £25 to £50 pw, BUT the majority of that get saved for things like hair cuts (as that’s almost £100 every 6 or so weeks) and new clothes.

killerofmen · 24/08/2020 17:21

£67. I think it should be less but DH and I agreed an amount. He spends it all but I tend to save. In hindsight I can't remember why we decided £67, that's quite an odd amount.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 24/08/2020 17:22

See, I would take takeaways out of food budget. So it depends on what it needs to cover. I’m thinking coffees / lunches / books etc.

notquiteruralbliss · 24/08/2020 17:24

I don't. There's no budget. I just spend what I want / need to.

1stTimeMama · 24/08/2020 17:28

We have about £1300 a month. We give ourselves £200 each, and the rest is 'family fun money' to be spent on anything else.

AgeLikeWine · 24/08/2020 17:31

Fortunately, I don’t need to budget an amount for disposable income. I know that as long as I restrict my spending on non-essentials (including holidays) to an average of £500 per month, I will stay firmly in the black.

In normal times, this isn’t an issue as I hate shopping, hate clutter and hate throwaway consumerism. At the moment, I’m not getting anywhere near that level of spending.

Angelina82 · 24/08/2020 17:33

About twenty/thirty quid Sad

MrsR87 · 24/08/2020 17:34

I guess it depends on what you mean by disponible income. Myself and DH (currently expecting DS1 in a few weeks) transfer £300 each into our personal accounts each month. That money is purely ours to do what we wish with. Our wages both get paid into joint account and all bills including mortgage, utility, grocery, etc come from there as do our savings and anything we spend on joint things like holidays, going for a meal, buying something from the house or a day out. I fully expect the amount I have just for me to be much lower when baby arrives.

Ariela · 24/08/2020 17:39

I'm in a year of not buying clothes. I don't go out to pubs etc or eat out. We don't buy alcohol.
We have been supporting local eateries with one takeaway per week (about £30 total) - but this is unusual, and we've not done it for a couple of weeks.
Other than food, I really do not buy anything else. We don't need it.

BertieBotts · 24/08/2020 17:40

Confused errrr about €8? I just looked at the averages and it's about €33 a month. That's for coffee with friends, random things I want, clothes for me, evenings out and kindle books.

We are a bit tight at the moment. However, I have added up DH's and it's more like €67 a month which is €15 a week! That doesn't seem very fair!

We don't allocate a specific amount, we just spend what we need to spend but that's what it comes to for fun/personal purchases.

Windyjuly · 24/08/2020 17:40

Personal just for me, £40 a month.

Other spends money is divided right down eg, eating out per week, etc. That's different pots.
