Should teachers be extra vigilant to infection in their every day lives to reduce school transmission?

As the latest PHE report states that in June there were more staff than students affected by the covid19 coronavirus, there are suggestions that teachers should take measures to reduce bringing the virus into schools.

Voting: do you think teachers should change how they behave out of schools to protect the school?
YABU yes
YANBU no

Also - what activities or behaviours do you think teachers should avoid or do to further this aim?

Me too, Salty, as I recognise that our TAs and others are vital to the smooth running of our classrooms. I wouldn't last 5 minutes without mine, and she's arguably more at risk than I am.

Might be interesting to post up German school stats here

Our TAs are not allowed in the classrooms this term. It's going to make life hard for the teachers and the TAs but especially for the students

@MichaelMumsnet

Hi all, and thanks for the reports. As it looks like *@FrenchItalian* is a previously banned poster, we've closed their account and removed their posts.
Excellent - thanks for the quick response

What are they going to be doing?

I wonder what their class sizes and 'bubbles' are like.
WhyNotMe40 · 26/08/2020 10:38

Could we ask the poster who lives on Germany? Choc something?

I've come to the conclusion that my regard for public health will be equivalent to its regard for mine. I'm definitely going to continue just getting on with life under exactly the same conditions as everyone else.

Is it @BigChocFrenzy?

WhyNotMe40 · 26/08/2020 10:59

Thanks Salty, yes that was who I was thinking of.

BigChoc - are you able to give us more information on secondary schools in this area of Germany?

She's amazing with stats.

Yes YABU. It’s everyone’s job to minimize contact with others. Shall I stop food shopping too just because I work in Education? Biggest load of rubbish ever when I read it on the news. What about the families of the children? Are they expected to be under house arrest too?

Some European countries discussed in brief here.

KeepingPlain · 26/08/2020 12:24

Everyone should still be changing their behaviour really. Kids are germ magnets, they may not usually be as affected by covid, but they can still transmit the disease. Teachers, children, doctors, nurses, police, everyone, needs to adjust how they act. Teachers alone doing what they can in schools is not enough.

MrsHamlet · 26/08/2020 13:37

@bettsbattenburg working remotely via teams if the student has a laptop (applies to only one of my students) and withdrawing from lessons if that's more appropriate to their needs. It's going to be interesting!!!

YellowB33 · 26/08/2020 14:32

Absolutely not! If that's the case, parents should have to 'change their ways' to stop infection spreading from the kids to teachers.
