Should teachers be extra vigilant to infection in their every day lives to reduce school transmission?

As the latest PHE report states that in June there were more staff than students affected by the covid19 coronavirus, there are suggestions that teachers should take measures to reduce bringing the virus into schools.

Voting: do you think teachers should change how they behave out of schools to protect the school?
YABU yes
YANBU no

Also - what activities or behaviours do you think teachers should avoid or do to further this aim?

We had several maternity leavers, some moving on to new schools and some retirers at the end of summer. They got nothing.

Teachers' workloads are pretty effective at killing off extra curricular fun and socialising. Who'd have thought that Gove was pandemic proofing the profession a decade ago. So astute of him Wink

I think the last time I went to a staff Christmas meal was about 10 years ago.

just so I am clear - i am okay to socialise with my non-teacher friends including medics, hairdressers, what about uni lecturers?

Is coronavirus rife in their work environment or their local area?

Piggywaspushed · 25/08/2020 17:17

Well, we keep being told it's not rife in schools!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 25/08/2020 17:18

can I go to the cinema?

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 25/08/2020 17:20

if i go to the cinema, cafe or pub what happens if there are people who are teachers that I dont know?

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 25/08/2020 17:21

maybe we need signs in shops/venues etc saying only one teacher allowed in at a time

WhyNotMe40 · 25/08/2020 17:22

Seriously though Clav, why do you have such a low opinion of teachers?

We had maternity leavers, movers on to other schools and leaving the school for other reasons. Collecting the donations and sorting out the presents was a miracle of non-contact organisation for which the people involved deserved a medal! The actual Goodbyes were muted, sombre and totally COVID-secure.

spanieleyes · 25/08/2020 17:22

Do we all need to wear a large " Beware, I am a teacher" badge so we can avoid others we might meet by accident.

Clavinova · 25/08/2020 17:23

Yes, I know!

can I go to the cinema?

Only if you watch a film with a U classification.

Clavinova · 25/08/2020 17:24

Sounds like a good idea.

MorganKitten · 25/08/2020 17:25

If they want teachers to do that then all parents should do the same, children could bring it to school and pass it on... not just teachers

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 25/08/2020 17:25

We could wear face masks declaring that we are teachers and what subject we teach. That way other teachers could avoid us.

‘Teacher On Board’ stickers for our cars?

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 25/08/2020 17:28

we could then be available to any parent with a query about our subject - always on duty

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 25/08/2020 17:31

‘Teacher On Board’ stickers for our cars?
other teachers could then avoid us in car parks
spanieleyes · 25/08/2020 17:31

Perhaps move us all into isolation camps where we can be strictly controlled and just let out to teach.

Saucery · 25/08/2020 17:31

Maybe not with our reputation as walking vectors of deadly infection and irresponsible spreading behaviour.
StaffAssociationRepresentative · 25/08/2020 17:32

so what happens when I get on a flight/train/ferry and there is another teacher?

spanieleyes · 25/08/2020 17:35

@StaffAssociationRepresentative
You can't be travelling! We're all going to be fitted with trackers and our whereabouts monitored!

I'm so sick of the hyperbole and people being so ridiculous - that would cost money!!

Saucery · 25/08/2020 17:38

Pretty much the same as when a Yr7 attempts to sit at the back of the bus with the Yr11s
