To actually feel depressed with the hot weather?

Stackys · 24/08/2020 07:09

I’m really struggling this year. It’s been consistently hot a humid for months now. I don’t sleep when it’s hot so I’ve been getting up at 4am after lying for hours feeling sticky and horrible.

I can’t take my dog out in this weather either. I can’t do anything.

I’m at work today and I’ve been awake since 3am. I looked at the weather app just now and seen it’s going to be another hot day and I honestly thought I was going to start crying. I’m just so tired. Maybe it’s generalised depression being highlighted by the heat but I’m just really struggling with it now.

AIBU to look forward to winter??

But it isn't hot any more.

Ginfordinner · 24/08/2020 07:11

Where is it still hot?

orangejuicer · 24/08/2020 07:11

I suspect that OP doesn't live in the UK gin.

Redissuereader · 24/08/2020 07:12

I’ve only put YABU because it is not hot here and has been raining for days and I love the hot weather. I do simply hide though and sleep deprivation is the worst. Can you afford a small air con unit for the bedroom? With the way the climate is going you might need to invest for the coming years.

amieejust · 24/08/2020 07:12

Where are you? Are you in the UK? It's been cool, on and off wet and windy for at least a week or so now!

YANBU though, I feel the same in prolonged hot and humid weather.

Stackys · 24/08/2020 07:19

I’m in East Yorkshire. It’s been over 18 degrees every day which I know isn’t hot hot but it’s the humidity and for some reason I’m really feeling the heat. I’m sat here right now in vest and pants already sticky and stressed out.

It's cold and rainy here, but I don't like it when it's too hot so know what you mean

Waxonwaxoff0 · 24/08/2020 07:22

It's not been humid over the past few days.

midnightstar66 · 24/08/2020 07:23

18 degrees? Surely you struggle for a good chunk of every year. Why not get an air conditioning unit for your room?

TW2013 · 24/08/2020 07:25

Maybe shower/ wash at 4am, don't fully dry yourself and the evaporation will cool you down so you can sleep. It sounds as if you have got into the trap of waking up early but then tossing and turning and not quite being able to sleep so you get more frustrated.

ilovesooty · 24/08/2020 07:26

What hot weather? I'm in West Yorkshire and I don't think it's been hot or even particularly humid for ages. As you said over 18© isn't exactly hot anyway. We've hardly had any summer to speak of.

Teddy1970 · 24/08/2020 07:31

It's cool here at the moment (West Sussex) it was in the low twenties yesterday, it's actually feels rather nice compared to the 38c when we had that heatwave, that was horrific! I get where you're coming from OP, everyone feels heat differently and I find myself looking at long range weather forecasts hoping we get a cold Winter!

speakout · 24/08/2020 07:32

Have you been to see your GP? 18 degrees really is not warm, most people should be able to cope- most offices/workplaces will have a thermostat set at 20 degrees, how do you cope at work?

missmouse101 · 24/08/2020 07:33

I totally understand OP. If you feel hot, desperate and uncomfortable it's just awful. I can't bear anything over 20 degrees personally and just trying to go about normal tasks in the oppressive humidity is exhausting. I've put our dehumidifier on every night and it's brim full every morning. I have windows open during the day. I have a portable fan next to me most of the time. Hopefully fresh, cool air will be back before long!

SayakaMurata · 24/08/2020 07:35

I also don't like hot weather and get sun burnt very easily. But 18 degrees isn't hot!

ILikeGlitter · 24/08/2020 07:39

When it's been hotter for a long period I sometimes find even 18 degrees uncomfortable.

MeredithGreysScalpel · 24/08/2020 07:41

18 degrees isn’t hot, so I suggest you see a doctor if you’re struggling in these temperatures. Your dog is fine to go out also, and I’m someone who’s very wary of taking mine out in high temperatures. Anything under 20 is low risk for them.

grafittiartist · 24/08/2020 07:41

East Yorkshire here too.
This year has been so hot. I'm with you on this- makes me feel dreadful.
Gives me a headache and stops me sleeping well.
It does seem to have cooled off a bit now though.

FippertyGibbett · 24/08/2020 07:43

How old are you ? Is it the dreaded menopause ?

InDeoEstMeaFiducia · 24/08/2020 07:44

We got air conditioning. I hate heat. Summer sucks.

Noneformethanks · 24/08/2020 07:44

Move here. It’s not hot.

PileofToss · 24/08/2020 07:45

I really do feel for you, but I don’t think many people will agree that 18c is hot. I had to wear a jumper yesterday and it was warmer than that here!

Jojoanna · 24/08/2020 07:46

I think it’s been unbelievably humid this year and I’m always feeling hot

Decentsalnotime · 24/08/2020 07:48

I’m in East Yorkshire. It’s been over 18 degrees every day which I know isn’t hot hot

Understatement if ever there was one!

South east England - that’s a chilly day this summer. We have had the most glorious summer

Teddy1970 · 24/08/2020 07:49

I find the humidity of the UK makes it feel so much hotter, for example I lived in the UAE for a short while it was well over 40c every single day, yes that's very hot but it was dry heat, and that's the difference, in the UK if it gets above 25c I struggle because it feels like I'm suffocating in a damp hot blanket, it's grim.
