Garden fence would you be offended?

Moved in to new house. Garden has a wooden fence about 5ft tall if that and it’s one with bigs gaps that you can completely see through. New neighbours are lovely but there is NO privacy at all. We both have children and their children stand on chairs to lean over our fence and watch us in our house, it drives me nuts.

Fence is now broken and we’ve discussed splitting the cost on replacing fence. I want to replace it with a 6ft “solid” fence So we both have “private” gardens. They are deeply offended by this and want another short fence. I think if we go ahead with a 6ft fence it will cause bad feeling. Would you put up the higher fence anyway?

@CraftyGin

I don’t get this ‘little englander’ approach to garden privacy.

I was brought up with a 3’ fence and DH no fence at all. If you have children in both gardens, why on earth would you want a fence?

I take it you've never had annoying neighbours?

Wtf would they be offended? Maybe not their preference but offended? That’s just daft.

Fuck it, to u don't like them anyway, offend away, at least they won't speak to you. Having neighbours does not obligate friendship.

We had a really low fence in our old house. We couldn't use the garden as the little girl from next door would climb over to hang out with us.

It was hell.

How rude.

What if the neighbours aren't that nice? What if the children are a nuisance?
They already refuse to give toys back.

They want some privacy in their own garden, just like they want in their house. Perfectly normal

@WendyHoused We have a guy locally who will not only come and cut them out of the gravel boards for you, but donates £3 to the hedgehog rescue for every hole he does!

Sorry for the derail OP!

Oh bugger, @LEELULUMPKIN, I accidentally reported you while trying to reply.
Sorry!

6 foot fence, and plant banana trees in front of it. In a couple of years they will reach 8-10 feet.
