To ask for the money

Dp part built a wall for somebody and the customer had another guy finish it off as dp was busy on another job.
Yesterday dop went to do more work for the customer in relation to the wall and the wall collapsed almost crushing dp legs. The part thsy dp built remained intact. The other guy had built his section with the bricks lying a different way and my dp had said to the customer he felt the wall was crooked when he arrived.
Obviously the customer is very upset and has either forgot or doesnt intend to pay dp his day rate money which isnt loads by the way.
Dp felt awkward asking and so do I would we look awful to ask for dp money in these circumstances.
Obviously none of this is dp fault and he spent all yesterday working hard for nothing if we dont ask.

Are you part of his business? As in actually part of it?

Clappingforjoy · 21/08/2020 09:13

No customer hired dp

Clappingforjoy · 21/08/2020 09:14

Dp saw his job advertised and contacted him

I might have not been clear. Are you personally a part of the business as in company secretary/director/employee/deal with the invoices etc?

Clockwork99 · 21/08/2020 09:17

Yanbu. Get DP to phone or go round, just be polite and firm.

Shizzlestix · 21/08/2020 09:19

Why didn’t your DP finish the wall? Why on earth would you leave a wall part built? Then go off to another job? This drives me mad with tradespeople.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 21/08/2020 09:20

If you are a part of the company, you ask. If not your DP has to ask. It would look odd if his girlfriend was asking...

Your DP really has to grow some balls about this because people are in general cfs. He can't just do "ah. But it's awkward". Rent arrears/reposessions are also awkward 🤷🏻

SchrodingersImmigrant · 21/08/2020 09:20

And I agree with that, but as customer hired for another kob, I guess they didn't mind.
BluebellsGreenbells · 21/08/2020 09:22

So why didn’t he finish the wall, and why did he go back?

I hope he took pictures?

PermaStress · 21/08/2020 09:23

Why did your DP do half a job that the customer had to get somebody else in to finish it? No wonder the customer was upset. They just want a bloody wall, which they'd still have if DP had finished the job he started Confused

user1493413286 · 21/08/2020 09:24

I don’t really understand why your DP built half the wall then was too busy to do the rest? If I hired someone to build a wall I would expect them to have the time to do it all in one go and not then be too busy.
Aside from that though yes he should be paid for work he’s done.

Suzi888 · 21/08/2020 09:25

Agree with @PermaStress why leave a job half done. Annoying.

PermaStress · 21/08/2020 09:26

And I agree with that, but as customer hired for another kob, I guess they didn't mind.

Weird conclusion to come to IMO. I'd conclude that customer minded a job being left half done.

Then they wouldn't have this DP back I assume. I would be angry but that would also mean not having him back. I would pay part of the part wall, if I had to find someone else myself, and not have the tradesmen back. If he sorted a replacement guy, fine.
BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 21/08/2020 09:33

I think they meant the customer hired Dp for a second job after he'd left the wall half done, not that he'd hired someone else to finish the wall.

That aside, your DP needs to ask for the money Op. Regardless of what's going on with the wall, it's separate to this job and he should be paid, but he can't send his partner around to ask for him - that's ridiculous. If he has his own business he's going to have to suck it up and learn to handle awkward situations.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 21/08/2020 09:35

Yes, that they hired DP again. Sorry. That was so... I re read it and I am sorry😂 I don't know what happened I am usually more coherent😂

Potterpotterpotter · 21/08/2020 09:39

Well he shouldn’t of left the wall half done...

The problem is here if the customer goes to the other builder and asks for his money back will he argue and say it wasn’t his fault and that your DP done something wrong which is why it fell down?

Winter2020 · 21/08/2020 09:39

Unless the customer saw the wall fall they may well be suspicious that your partner pulled it down. If the money was for an entirely separate job that was done then yes ask but if it was wall related I would leave it - they may be wondering if he is a scammer and a bully by this point. If the wall appeared shoddy or unsafe your partner should have told the customer that this is the case and refused to get further involved (unless agreed to take it down).

PermaStress · 21/08/2020 09:49

@BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs and @SchrodingersImmigrant (both usernames i am grinning about btw!!) Ooooohh. Thanks. I.... yeah I did not understand that post the way it was meant 😂😂😂😂🤣

Clappingforjoy · 21/08/2020 09:51

Okay for those people asking why dp left wall half built it was agreed between him and the customer that he would start the wall and possibly come back after he had finished another job

OP posts:
Clappingforjoy · 21/08/2020 09:52

Customer was there when it happened and it's all on camera

Thanks. I am really sorry😂

Clappingforjoy · 21/08/2020 09:53

The guy that finished it had even remarked that dp had done a good job of his section

OP posts:
SchrodingersImmigrant · 21/08/2020 09:55

Well then DP asks for the money and for future remembers that it's better to do the whole job so he doesn't run into similar problem

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 21/08/2020 09:59

Your dp has messed this customer around enough.
