To wonder why women feel pressure to shave their legs but men don't?

Not just legs actually. Armpits. Upper lip, etc.

Also, why am I spending money on nail varnish and beauty products that I don't actually need? Is it capitalism that has told women that there bodies are not good enough and need time money and effort to improve?

Why just because I don't have a penis do I feel the need to pluck my eyebrows?!
Is it a Western thing? A growing up in the 90s thing? I feel like my culture is so engrained its like asking a fish what water is. I wouldn't be seen dead in sandles without painted nails... But I'm starting to wonder why now.

i would say because society has conditioned us in to believing females "should" because its appealing to others

im 39 have severe PCOS and jet black hair so very thick black hair everywhere

ive never shaved anything, wore make up or nail things,no fake eyebrows, waxed or dyed my hair, ive been natural all my life

ive always been very into skin care though
diy facials, natural home made face scrubs and organic products,
shampoo bars not bottles and all soaps from the lush shop or similar
organic places

its never stooped my swimming going to beaches(uk or abroad),wearing shorts or vest tops and ive never been questioned either

i also dont sweat so my underarms aint smelly

its all about having confidence to be you

I don’t shave anything. Hair grows on my body, it’s what my body does. Anybody who doesn’t like it doesn’t get near my body, and anybody who doesn’t want to see it shouldn’t be looking.

Actually, i would say society has conditioned us into believing females “should” because it’s disgusting and unhygienic if we don’t.

If it was simply a matter of appeal it wouldn’t be such an issue.

I would love to not bother with shaving armpits/legs ever again but I would never go out in a sleeveless top or dress/skirt without doing so.

DH has never expressed any preference about my body hair or the lack of

My chin, since menopause however has been a revelation Angry

Does anyone remember the Julia Roberts armpits incident?Grin personally I had hoped she was going to start a new fashion but sadly not Sad

Lots of young women don't bother shaving legs, underarms, and probably public hair. Just by casual observation. My adult dd shaves her bits and bobs and I'm like why? She just says she wants to. It's just fashion, especially the eyebrow thing. As for nails, I paint mine because it's fun not because I have to.

You know what I mean.

jolokoy · 20/08/2020 21:56

You know actually I've gone out loads with unshaven legs, armpits etc. Nobody has ever mentioned it in England. Sometimes I've felt self conscious but nobody has ever MADE me feel self conscious. It's literally never been mentioned.

The only place people have actually mentioned it, with genuine concern for me, was the USA. Not in a mean way but in a kind discreet way as if I had tucked my skirt into my knickers and not realised.
