Has your child had Covid

Posting for traffic. Really not an aibu.

My son (4) has a really bad cough, sounds like barking. He is having a covid test in the morning.

Has anyones child had covid? Did they become really sick or just slightly ill? Did they recover ok?

Maybe. Cough, breathless, temp of 42 for three days. He was delirious. Never had a temp like it before. 10 days off school.
Before testing was available. So we don’t know for sure, but had been in close contact with people from affected regions who also had similar symptoms.

GalOopNorth · 19/08/2020 22:36

He’s 11 and fine now.

Dylaninthemovies1 · 19/08/2020 22:37

@GalOopNorth is he ok now? DS doesn’t have a temperature but has been sweating . The cough sounds really painful

Bark like cough sounds like it could be croup too. DD had that and it was awful, she was sick every night when the coughing was at its worst. Hope he's on the mend soon, whatever it is.

GalOopNorth · 19/08/2020 22:44

Yup he is fine now. Was very tired for a while. Lots of liquids if he can take them, lots of rest. We don’t know if DS had Covid but looking back it was a heck of a fever. And his breathing was very shallow and very fast.

Dylaninthemovies1 · 19/08/2020 22:46

@GalOopNorth glad he’s better now!

@ToTheTwees I’ve just googled croup, and actually it does sound more like that

DD had medication from the GP in the end (sorry, can't remember what it was but you dissolved it in water and she accepted it much better with a bit of squash mixed in). Horrible illness, it was a miserable time. Slightly elevating at night and calpol before bed helped.

Croup cough sounds like a seal, is can actually be quite dangerous (rarely, but) so make sure you keep an eye on them. My eldest has had it twice and was right as rain by morning but it can be more serious. Being upright helps. I think the NHS website will have more info

LimeLemonOrange · 19/08/2020 22:53

My 17 year old had it we think (no tests available then)

His cough sounded like a bark. He coughed for 2-3 days with this cough that sounded like nothing I've ever heard before, but he had no other symptoms

MiniMaxi · 19/08/2020 22:59

Good that he’s getting a Covid test but if you’re worried do speak to a doctor - my son’s had recurrent croup and a dose of dexamethasone sorts it out.

Probably, back in Feb, before we knew it was here, so no testing. She was off school for about 2 weeks. I had it too. She has made a full recovery; I have a post-COVID cough that shows no sign of improving.

greythrow · 20/08/2020 12:30

Mine have probably had it, given that i had it (confirmed via swab) and my husband was ill just before me so we think he gave it to me. Kids never had any symptoms.
Hope your little boy feels better soon.
