To choose a school based on the uniform...

Hear me out...

We have two schools in the local area, both appear to be excellent schools. One is slightly closer but has an ugly uniform - yellow polo shirt and bright green jumpers. The other has navy blue with white. Am I being ridiculous leaning towards the navy one? Blush The fact I'm asking probably means yes.

Ps. I probably won't get a choice and will have to go where the local authority allocates us... moot point!

Yes but I think i would too

littlefireseverywhere · 19/08/2020 22:25

Nope, if they’re both equally good schools, then something has to influence your decision.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/08/2020 22:26

If the schools are equally good and the uniform is literally the only difference then fair enough!

whiteroseredrose · 19/08/2020 22:27

Sort of. You might get a new head who wants to make his/her mark by redesigning the uniform!

NonsensicalWitch · 19/08/2020 22:28

Have you been to see them both? Did either one seem better while you were there? I mean, I wanted DD to go to her school, because I didn't like the fence around the playground at the other choice, so not much less silly than choosing based on a uniform tbh. Again, both were pretty much as good as each other.

whattodo2019 · 19/08/2020 22:29

Totally bonkers but brilliant!
Why should a kid have to wear yellow and green??
I chose not to send my kids to a school as the uniform was Cadbury purple and I absolutely hate them colour!!!

CantThinkOfAName92 · 19/08/2020 22:31

If both are equally good, and equal in what you want from a school then why not base it on uniform. It's your choice and you can choose whichever you want for whatever reason.

Though personally I'd choose the one without the white!!! We only have white polo shirts for pe and they are a nightmare to keep clean, especially in summer when there's yellow suncream stains around the necks and arms. We have what I did think an ugly choice at first...but they don't show the stains haha

Basically what you're saying is that one school (in your view) is run by people of taste and the other isn't. Obviously you go for the tasteful one. HTH.

OchonAgusOchonO · 19/08/2020 22:33

Go with the one with the hideous uniform. My uniform was navy. It took me over 20 years to wear anything navy after I left school despite the fact navy really suits me.

My kids have a hideous green colour uniform that nobody would ever want to wear. Much better.

AliTheMinx · 19/08/2020 22:34

Navy every time! An absolute no brainer 😁

emptyplinth · 19/08/2020 22:34

If they're roughly equal in other respects then YANBU, especially if you can get most of the stuff from any old shop instead of specialist uniform stores. Cheaper and much less hassle.

Ooooh interesting plot twist here^^. I dunno though. I quite like my school uniform colours and do tend to wear them quite a lot.

Spare a thought for my cousin in Dublin, who had to wear a full length, heavy, mud brown skirt in secondary school. Yikes.

Yes and this too^^. If we were choosing based on uniform, I'd be finding out how much of it I had ti buy with logos and how much I could buy from the supermarket. The one with most supermarket would be the one I'd pick, regardless of how it looked!
nancybotwinbloom · 19/08/2020 22:40

Where does your dc want to go?

WithIcePlease · 19/08/2020 22:42

I excluded a school from my options as they had plastic trays that food for lunch went into instead of plates.

Ugh yes, I went to a prep school. I had to wear A BERET! I kid you not. And this was not even all THAT long ago.
Shizzlestix · 19/08/2020 22:52

Can’t lie, I was wandering round on an interview day and I was very impressed with the matching backpacks all the children had that went with the uniform, which is my favourite colour. I’d already decided to take the job if they offered it to me, I wouldn’t have accepted had it been a terrible school.
