To think beauty salons not doing face treatments is utterly ridiculous?

I've booked a face treatment for tomorrow because my eyebrows are a bushy mess and I get a text from the beauty salon now telling me I have to cancel my appointment as they are not doing any face treatments until Boris says so (due to the Manchester lockdown). They are doing other treatments

I honestly think the govt is taking a piss at this point. Yeah we're really saving lives by only having beauticians wax our legs but not our face lmao

I agree. Some of these rules make absolutely no sense

lurker101 · 18/08/2020 22:41

It makes no sense to me - shisha bars have been open for weeks here (london) but I could only get my eyebrows done from Saturday?! How does that work out?! Surely there’s more risk from sharing a shisha pipe.....

MissCalamity · 18/08/2020 23:03

Surely if you're both wearing masks it would be fine?
I'm in the exact same situation, my eyebrows have a life of their own and I find myself looking at all these other women with completely perfect eyebrows thinking that they must have gone of out Manchester to get them done. 🤣

StCharlotte · 18/08/2020 23:10

I had my brows done last weekend (sorry!). The beautician was wearing a visor but not a mask and when she was leaning over me I realised it was a complete waste of time although I was wearing a mask so hopefully one of us was gaining some protection. I can see why they were reluctant to allow facial treatments and unless they wear masks as well, I shan't be going back.

Enderman · 18/08/2020 23:12

I had my eyebrows done yesterday.

Swelteringmeltering · 18/08/2020 23:38

Opportunity your title needs a warning, Manchester only.
I've been waiting since March to get these slugs on my face tamed! And your post is giving me heart attacks.

I shall be wearing a mask and I'm sure she will. She did before lock down.
Another wax lady however... After long emails about ppe.. Suddenly said... I'm not wearing it.. Once your there, trapped in a small room. I'm not going back there. Hmm

JKRowlingIsMyQueen · 18/08/2020 23:52

@Enderman

I had my eyebrows done yesterday.
Where? Are you in Manchester? Save me!!!!!!!!!!!

They are allowed to now. Had mine done today

Feelingconfused2020 · 18/08/2020 23:58

It's ok for you, the beautician will wear a mask and won't be at work if she is poorly so your risk is low. If she (or he) does eyebrows all day how many people are breathing in her face? Yes the risk is lower with masks but not zero. In a week a beautician is highly likely to encounter the face of someone with covid.

There's a huge difference between that and leg waxing, legs don't breathe.

alltoomuchrightnow · 19/08/2020 00:02

had eyelashes done yesterday and she told me not to wear a mask (she wore one)

LadyGAgain · 19/08/2020 00:28

Brows and facials are totally allowed now. Since Saturday!

Not in Greater Manchester I don't think. If they are- I'm going tomorrow!

I own a business which specialises in cosmetic tattooing (facial) and haven't been able to work since March. I've had very little government assistance as I own a LTD company and pay myself via dividends.

Although there are no cases in my area, I am classed as being within a wider area of 'local lockdown' so can't work. Absolutely no indication that this will change any time soon.

I'm really just watching the business I built from nothing, 6 years ago, slip through my fingers. The money is running out and I have 2 small children to feed. I can't see an end to this.

Yes, she was (from your mask) but not you.

Exhalations go straight round the edges if a visor (they are splatter and eye protection), If she tested positive in the coming days, you'll need the 14 day isolation, as you have descuribed close and unmitigated contact.

Fingers crossed Confused

Well now I feel guilty for being upset at my eyebrow woes. It's nothing compared to this. I'm so sorry Flowers

Very true.

People can go and get their eyebrows done by someone who is breathing all over them as they lean across them wearing a visor.

They can sit on a plane or in a restaurant or pub with a group of strangers but my DD who is about to give birth can't have her DH in the same room while she's in labour.

“In a week a beautician is highly likely to encounter the face of someone with covid“

I’m not sure it’s is true. The last study estimated 1 in 1900 currently has Covid. Assuming at least some of these are self isolating (some won’t be as they’re asymptomatic or presymptomatic, or Ignoring the advice), the beautician would have to be doing over 2000 treatments a week to be encountering someone with Covid. I doubt many are seeing that many clients!!

modgepodge · 19/08/2020 09:54

Sorry, that last bit wasn’t clear. Of course they COULD be seeing someone with Covid, but statistically, unless they’re seeing 2000 clients a week it’s not ‘highly likely’ that they are.
