Anyone fancy throwing some ideas my way. I’ve whiled away hours and hours looking at paint colours and wall art and I’ve overwhelmed myself now!

We have a large living room and dining room, joined together so in effect one long room but we definitely use them as two separate spaces. However would like decor to flow through so they work together.

A fire breast in each room with alcoves either side... high ceilings. A black/charcoal sofa and chair. Furniture is mainly oak.

I like Farrow and Ball colours - greens, blues, aubergine... am open-minded. Would like some large striking prints on display. I like interesting detail and quirky over abstract. I prefer bold colours to pastel. I’ve been searching through kuriosis.com but just can’t put colours and prints together in my mind.

Budget - between £500-1k

So if you have a flair for interiors, and can be bothered... help ! :)

Farrow &Ball Paean Black. No.294 is a beautiful, almost black aubergine shade. Works wonderfully with paintings.

I’m Mrs Magnolia, but in a large room with high ceilings there’s lots of scope for an adventurous approach. Do you want the same colour throughout, or are you considering a tonal effect? Or even complementary colours for a change of scene? My friend has a lovely dark green in her dining room which I think is from Farrow and Ball. It’s quite traditional but very striking. But personally I’d want something brighter/more uplifting in the living room. Maybe a sage green?

I love royal blue. One day I will buy a house and my room will be royal blue curtains with dark blue curtains with a geometric pattern. I love rose gold with royal blue and gold so I will have furniture with the colours incorporated or I will have royal blue curtains and a dark grey walls. I have decorated my imaginary house in various ways over the years. Hope one day to actually own and not rent to do it!

Good luck op. Maybe get some catalogues to get some inspiration. Next has quite nice pages

My living room is currently a very deep teal - similar to hague blue but slightly more green. It's dulux azure fusion 1. We have oak floors and it goes very well.

It is darker, but it's strangely relaxing and the deeper paint makes whatever you put on the walls - artwork, nice mirrors, lighting etc- really stand out.

Oo thanks so much for the inspo! I am loving the Paean Black! I think it would work in my alcoves or on fire breasts with a light grey for the rest - should compliment my sofa.

I do love a good teal too.

@startinganew123 hope you get your lovely blue/rose gold room in the not too distant future!

Anyone got any suggestions for artwork?

I know dark, bold colours are trendy at the moment but our living room is duck egg blue and white and I love it Smile

Have you tried Etsy for artwork? They've got some lovely stuff from independent sellers.

@DotTheCaddy I do love duck egg! We just moved but my last bedroom was duck egg.

I’ve just been looking on Etsy today and found some fab lino cut prints and ready made gallery sets!
