Has anybody tried hypnosis and would you recommend? I am moving and need to start driving, have passed a test but am not a confident driver. Has anyone had hypnosis for this or any other issue? How did you find it?

I had hypnosis to help with agoraphobia, my mental breakdown left me unable to even go near the front door let alone through it. It was recommended that I give it a try and I was quite dubious but to my disbelief it worked fantastically well and I am able to go out now, I'm not always super confident in being out so I use some 'calm inducing' techniques that I was to taught to help boost myself.
It's well worth giving it a try

@pinkyboots1 thanks for replying. I’ve booked in for my first session so cautiously optimistic, so glad it helped you.

Yes I did a few sessions to help with depression and anxiety, it really helped.

pinkyboots1 · 18/08/2020 20:36

I thing it works best if you're really 'open' to it and want it to be successful

I have my second session tomorrow. Mine is for anxiety and ocd. I’m hoping that it works out.

Yes, I had it years ago to deal with trichotillimania (a severe hair-pulling OCD) I had managed to hide since my teens.

I had repeated hypnosis sessions with my counsellor (CBT). It doesn’t work right away but it does help you relax and recognise much more quickly triggers and act quickly to stop them.

My therapist also taught me self-relaxation and how to use the same techniques used in hypnosis to relax myself at times of stress. Over ten years later, I still use those when my head is a mess and I can’t settle at night in bed. The minute I start and focus, I relax right away and am able to sleep.

Sorry I should have added I have not pulled at my hair in years.

Hi, OP I'm actually training to be a hypnotherapist. There's actually a lot of research that's been done regarding neuroscience over many years which is why hypnosis is so successful and safe.

As a student I must say I have been blown away by the success I have had treating many conditions with hypnosis.

There is a registers of hypnotherapy students for example held by the Association of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy that clients can consult to contact hypnotherapy students to arrange sessions free of charge whilst the student is training.

StoneofDestiny · 18/08/2020 21:07

Where do you actually find a hypnotherapist (one that is not a charlatan)?

Wanderlustnearorfar · 18/08/2020 21:08

Thank you for all your responses. I’m relieved to hear so many good experiences.
@celticmissey this sounds good I didn’t know anything about it.whereabouts would I find this register? I would be over the moon to trial hypnotherapy

@StoneofDestiny I looked to see the ones closest to me and the reviews and then checked they were on the register so fingers crossed

If you look up AFSFH.com (Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherspy) on the Internet you can search on their website for a student hypnotherapist in your area.

Most of my sessions are done online and they work really well.

celticmissey · 18/08/2020 22:30

Sorry for typo - obviously should read hypnotherapy not hypnotheraspy

Hypnotherapy · 19/08/2020 05:54

@StoneofDestiny I have been a clinical hypnotherapist for the past twelve years, there are hundreds of associations out there but as hypnotherapy is not a regulated profession anyone can set one up!

The hypnotherapy directory is a good start but actually the best bet is to either go for someone recommended (because some of the best hypnotherapists could be self trained and not on any register) or if you do want someone who has studied with someone reputable you can check that they are registered with the CNHC which is the complementary and and natural healthcare council set up by the Government. They only accept people with qualifications from somewhere that is considered suitable.

Thank you
