Just heard my elderly neighbour speaking to a mother neighbour saying "it's about time all this SHITE come to an end now". The other neighbour agreed saying "yes, people should have realised by now it's all FAKE"

AIBU to ask do people still believe this virus is fake?
I couldn't believe what I was hearing from the 2 of them.

@blueskys72

Someone on my FB feed says "Prove to me that it's even a virus!" Hmm and has put up some ridiculous letter to send to school, citing the Magna Carta in relation to beliefs that school can - and will - take their child and forcibly test for Covid, and keep that child away from parents for at least two weeks.
Reading this just made me feel exhausted, how do people have the energy to make this kind of shit up??
chickenyhead · 18/08/2020 23:01

because denial is easier for them to cope with and allows them to justify their selfish choices.

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 19/08/2020 00:45

People will believe what they want to believe.

They seem to focus on all the evidence that supports their beliefs and ignore or put less importance on anything that goes against their dogma.

There is a video going round basically saying that care home patients were dnr'd, refused any medical treatment or substinance when they got ill ( not COVID of course) Instead thety were dosed up on morphine and left to die.
Basically starved to death.
Of course!!

It clearly isn’t fake and we can’t go back to normal right now due to exponential growth but the fear levels and hysteria over it now are ridiculous. It’s gone from flattening the curve to stop the NHS being overwhelmed to people having an expectation they should be protected from getting it at all cost.

Mimishimi · 19/08/2020 09:40

I think if you believe in Nazis (and I do from family experience) then you believe that this virus is real.

PhilSwagielka · 19/08/2020 09:56

One of my friends lost her mum to coronavirus. I know people who've had it. My brother and I think we might have had mild cases earlier this year. Pretty sure it's real.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 19/08/2020 10:25

O yes sndrhey are opening g schools so they can stick live virus up kids noses to make them all ill.

RaspberryRuff · 19/08/2020 10:27

My favourite conspiracy theory is that it’s all fake so they can mandate vaccination. Might this not have been easier with the multiple vaccines we already have than killing hundreds of thousands of people and trashing the world’s economies?

user1471500037 · 19/08/2020 10:28

Stupid people are using other stupid people saying COVID is fake as an excuse to maintain restrictions that are harming education, the economy and people's health. There are no easy answers but we are going to have to live with COVID, accept a higher death toll if need be and get back to normal.

Mittens030869 · 19/08/2020 10:31

I agree with this. I've often compared this to how my African friends in The Gambia coped with the risk of illness. A lot of people die of malaria, the majority of cf them children under 5, but they don't develop hysteria every time they see a mosquito.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 19/08/2020 10:36

They have already adjusted figures for that flaw in the system @lovelifehope By about 5000 I believe even though some of these adjustments could still have died of COVID. I read somewhere ONS thought tbe figures were half that.
I hope that in the future those who die after 28 days of COVID are still counted.

SmallYappyTypeDog · 19/08/2020 12:14

Surely if they wanted to implement mandatory vaccination/microchipping "they" would just fake a flu pandemic? Then we could whip a new vaccine out in no time. People are used to a new flu vaccine coming out regularly and would be more willing to accept it. Surely also the governments involved would be a bit more prepared and make themselves look at least vaguely competent so we would be clamouring to give up our rights.

So either "they" are about as cunning as Baldrick or it is all part of Jacinda Aderns plan to take over the world Shock!

Heidi1976 · 19/08/2020 12:18

Until the people who think it is fake have someone close to them who either dies or becomes seriously ill with it, there will always be people who refuse to believe it exists on the basis that something is impacting their life that isn't directly affecting them....yet.
