To be a pissed off with personal trainer?

I know this is a massive first world problem, but I’m trying to work out if I’m being over sensitive or not. I’ve worked with this PT for two years. All fine. Obviously when lockdown down happened and the gyms shut the sessions had to stop but she messaged me and said she’d be in touch as soon as everything reopened and she was back up and running. She then disappeared totally from social media, despite having been a prolific user beforehand for months. I get it, it was a tough time for everyone.

Then in July she reappears on Facebook announces she’s back and will be in touch with all clients to arrange sessions within a week, but I hear nothing. So assume because gym openings were pushed back till August in Wales that was why. Gyms reopened last week and still hear nothing. So assume she’s not back and when I’ve been in the gym she’s not been there.

Today I log into Instagram and see she’s actually been back training clients for the last week and hadn’t been in touch with me! I feel a bit cross to be honest. Firstly I still have sessions outstanding from before lockdown and secondly forgetting about a loyal client seems a bit shit does it not? WIBU to get in touch and ask what’s going on? I’m torn between that and thinking PTs are ten a penny and why should I chase her if she doesn’t value my custom?

I would just find a new PT. It's her loss.

thedaytodayyesterday · 18/08/2020 12:42

She's probably got a back log, I wouldn't take it personally.

TwentySixPointTwo · 18/08/2020 12:43

You still have session outstandoing - assuming you have paid for them alread then take those sessions and change PT afterwards.

Rhine · 18/08/2020 12:45

@thedaytodayyesterday

She's probably got a back log, I wouldn't take it personally.
Possibly, but I don’t buy it really. She could still book people sessions in advance. In fact she used to do that all of the time.

I’m shocked at how much this has pissed me off actually.

YANBU. Thats really crap of her! I'd be getting in contact. Back log or not, she could sent a quick message.

DewDropsonKittens · 18/08/2020 12:48

If you haven't seen her at the gym, could that mean she isn't seeing any clients?

Maybe she has something personal going on?

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 18/08/2020 12:51

I'd be a bit naffed off. Had this with a beautician, and felt like I might have been on the list of 'clients they weren't bothered about losing', but it might just be inefficiency. :)

Rhine · 18/08/2020 12:51

Her social media says she’s been training clients in the gym. So she has been there, just not when I’ve been there.

Squirrelblanket · 18/08/2020 12:51

I'm also shocked at how much this is pissing you off. Just call her and arrange your sessions. 🤷‍♀️

FatBottomedGurl · 18/08/2020 12:52

I would be pissed off and the cynical and usually right part of me would assume she's purposefully avoiding you because she owes you sessions. Lockdown has been hard on lots of people and whilst I understand her drive to get in paying customers, she has already benefited from the payment you made in advance and she is obligated to honour her side of the deal by supplying the sessions.

So, I would be contacting her right away and asking for your pre-paid sessions to be fulfilled within a set period of time (I would say you expect to have bookings within 30 days). If she can't honour that, she owes you a partial refund to cover the sessions she is not providing.

Once I had my sessions or partial refund, I would be finding a more honest PT.

Rhine · 18/08/2020 12:53

The point is Squirrel that she was supposed to contact me when back up and running and hasn’t bothered. That’s why I’m miffed.

Mamadoll · 18/08/2020 12:53

I would expect her to have made those with outstanding sessions a priority on her list before any other clients. I would call or message her to see what's going on. At best it's an oversight due to poorly managing her clients, worst she has taken on new clients paying cash over previous ones in which I would be really disappointed. I know times are tough, especially with jobs like personal training etc, but it would be a big mistake if this is what has happened, loyal customers won't forget being dropped so easily. I hope this isn't what has happened here OP.

Dozycuntlaters · 18/08/2020 12:53

YABU - she hasn't worked for months, she's probably had about a million clients contacting her asking her for a slot. Why haven't you just done that? When my hairdresser reopened I just messaged her to get the first appointment I could because I knew she would be inundated with clients so wanted to make her life a little easier.

Darkestseasonofall · 18/08/2020 12:54

I'd assume she's taking on clients who are paying and has little interest in honouring your sessions as they won't generate any money.
I'd be pissed off.

FizzyPink · 18/08/2020 12:55

Definitely message her and point out you didn’t realise she’d started working again.

DP is a sports coach and had ridiculous demand once he was able to start working again. It got to the stage where he had to “give” some clients to other coaches as he just didn’t have enough hours in the day but he’d never have just ignored a client like that.

CatBatCat · 18/08/2020 12:55

Have you contacted her?

Rhine · 18/08/2020 12:59

No, not contacted her yet. I’m just thinking what to say.

OP posts:
Rhine · 18/08/2020 13:00

BTW a hairdresser isn’t really the same thing because you don’t book and pay for appointment in advance 😉

OP posts:
Nikori · 18/08/2020 13:01

"Hey, are you back doing sessions yet? I think I still have a few sessions outstanding. Thanks"

Watsitallabout · 18/08/2020 13:03

I would call her as someone else said and arrange your sessions. She should have called if she said she would, but in her busy state of coming back to work, she might just have forgotten to contact everyone, I am sure it is not personal to you, you haven't done anything to annoy her so its definitely not personal, but it could be yes that she needs some money coming in, which again is not really fair on you, as you already paid, but she is probably skint if she hasn't worked for months, so yes your right to be bit miffed and if it has bothered you that much it might be worth changing PT's after she has honored the sessions you paid for already

Rhine · 18/08/2020 13:04

The people who had sessions outstanding were supposed to be a priority. Which is why I just expected to hear from her I suppose.

And also I’d really missed it and was looking forward to getting back.

OP posts:
CatBatCat · 18/08/2020 13:05

Then maybe she thinks you're not interested anymore and she has enough custom that she doesn't need to chase you to book.

Gizlotsmum · 18/08/2020 13:07

The people she is training may have contacted her as soon as gyms reopened. Maybe she is waiting for you to contact her to restart? I would get in touch and as about restarting.

Palavah · 18/08/2020 13:07

@Nikori

"Hey, are you back doing sessions yet? I think I still have a few sessions outstanding. Thanks"
Id say

"hey, great that you are back training clients! I'd like to book the outstanding sessions."

Cut to the chase.

No point in being annoyed that she hasn't contacted you. She might have just booked a few to try out how she's going to make it work safely, get used to how the gym is operating.

If you can't stop taking it personally then better that you find another PT.

CrazyToast · 18/08/2020 13:16

Just contact her yourself. There could be a million reasons why she hasnt contacted you yet. It is highly unlikely to be personal.
