i am bloated after every.single.meal. or snack even!! there's no correlation to specific things, it's just EVERYTHING, and it's really getting me down. i can cope with the feeling, but i can't wear anything i want because as soon as i eat, my stomach bloats up and pokes out. in the past, i would just not eat before going out, but i want to just be able to eat what i want and go out afterwards without looking like this!! it's so embarrassing, and really affects my self esteem Sad it's been happening for at least 4 years, i developed an ed in this time, which was partly due to this bloating i believe, because if i didn't eat, i couldn't get bloated, and my stomach would look flat everyday. if anyone has any suggestions please tell me Sad.

Probiotics help, I take optibac high dose ones

Throughabushbackwards · 17/08/2020 23:03

I used to suffer terrible bloating. Now I'm must better - I drink a pint of water with lemon juice in it when I first wake up and another about an hour before bed. I also follow 16:8 fasting with wheat cut out of my diet. It sounds rather joyless written down like this but I feel much better for it!

Yeahnahmum · 17/08/2020 23:04

Try an elimination diet op

thesoundofthepolice · 17/08/2020 23:08

Low caffeine, one cup a day,
Really limited dairy
Lots of peppermint tea/hot water to drink throughout the day.
Also eating slowing and chewing properly helps massively

mintich · 17/08/2020 23:14

Not letting myself get hungry. As soon as my stomach starts rumbling, the bloating starts then gets worse with food.

EnoughAlready2020 · 17/08/2020 23:18

Definitely low or even better no carb. I can't believe what a massive difference it has made not just to my bloating but actually to my overall levels of physical comfort

Pandacub7 · 17/08/2020 23:23

Stress, too much fibre and artificial sweeteners.

SchnitzelVon · 17/08/2020 23:24

Low FODMAP diet, I don't food it religiously now but do stick to low/no carb especially no gluten/wheat/grains, and no dairy, finished off some of my DC’s overnight oats the other day made with cows milk, was in agony bloated then had terrible toilet trouble, I only had 3 spoonfuls! Garlic, onion and cucumber are massive triggers for me too.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 17/08/2020 23:26

I cut out all dairy which helped, and drink nothing but water and peppermint tea ( aside from a gallon of red wine when I have to see MIL, because it's medicinal). All of those have helped.

SchnitzelVon · 17/08/2020 23:26

Oh also beans/pulses and legumes do me in so no homous or peanut butter for me....and Oalty milk has me running for the loo in agony!

winetime89 · 17/08/2020 23:26

Could have wrote that myself. Have struggled with it for 15 years since I was 14. going on holiday is awful, having to wear a bikini if I want to eat. even my morning coffee bloats me up. Would love to just eat a meal and just be normal afterwords.

RAOK · 17/08/2020 23:32

I am the same! Things I am trying are probiotics, kefir, hot water and lemon, no fizzy drinks, fewer carbs especially bread products, yoga and meditation...

Devlesko · 17/08/2020 23:32

For me it was cutting out the white stuff and dehydrated things that you add water to, even pasta.
Improved with wholegrain. Potatoes bloat me every time but sweet potato is fine.
I worked it out by following dh diet as he is auto immune. He has to avoid a lot more.

Grapewrath · 17/08/2020 23:35

For me, hormones affect my gut.

nannymags · 17/08/2020 23:36

All fantastic suggestions above. Eating as close To the earth as possible..... then doing an elimination diet within that if you still feel bloated.

I suffer the same, all my adult life, I look like I’ve just had a baby ( no thing wrong with it but I don’t have the baby!)

Anxiety and dehydration don’t help. Focus on low ph and gut health

The main culprits are wheat/gluten & dairy products. Get yourself a food allergy test.

I was bloated all the time and I did a food allergy test and it turned out to be eggs and wheat. Now that I've cut it out, my belly is back to normal.

Sorry, I've drunk a little bit too much wineBlush

fishonabicycle · 17/08/2020 23:56

I think I have very recently solved mine. I couldn't work out why my bloating only ever occurred on days I was at work all day (office type job). I tried all sorts of different food, and would still be randomly bloated. Then I had a lightbulb moment and googled 'sitting and bloating'. Apparently sitting at a desk for hours can badly affect your digestion (which would explain why I never get it at home, or if I only work a half days, as I move about a lot at home).

FizzyPink · 17/08/2020 23:59

Exercise

Cutting out carbs, sugar and dairy and very sadly eggs unless I want horrendous constipation

I usually low carb but have totally lost my way the last few weeks and it’s crazy the effect it has on my stomach. I literally look about 6 months pregnant after a meal if it’s carby

frustrationcentral · 18/08/2020 00:11

Brilliant thread, I suffer terribly with bloating so some great tips I'm going to try

mumwon · 18/08/2020 00:14

oh & lactofree milk - thank goodness its available!
although op you should go & check this out with dr - sorry & trying to say this without sounding alarmist - bloat can be a symptom of womb cancer BUT if eating fodmap helps than its probably ibs but sorry to say all you vegans! totally veg diet is a bit indigestible

stopgap · 18/08/2020 00:16

I’m celiac, so already don’t eat gluten, but have also had to cut out beans, too much dairy and too much fruit. If I’m really struggling, I’ll take some charcoal pills.

IHeartKingThistle · 18/08/2020 00:24

Ovarian cysts can cause bloating. Any other symptoms of those?

sugagi · 18/08/2020 09:30

@mumwon i was thinking about the veg being the problem.. when i was vegan i was bloated more than ever!! (i'm not vegan or veggie anymore, i eat normally now)
